Sony Xperia XZ Pro News, Specs, Features, Release Date & Price

Sony is preparing nowadays to launch its new flagship phone, the Xperia XZ Pro. This phone has been making the rounds of rumour mills for the last 1 month. The rumours and news so far have suggested that Sony is all set to introduce a completely re-designed Xperia handset. If the rumours are to be believed, the Sony Xperia XZ might kick-away every single flagship that currently exists in the industry. For the last 2-3 years, Sony hasn’t been able to keep it up with the smartphone competition. 2017 was a year when almost every smartphone manufacturer jumped on the 18:9 display bandwagon. Unfortunately, Sony wasn’t one of those smartphone manufacturers. However, with the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ Pro, the Japanese technology giant hopes to cheer up all of its fans. Let’s learn what the new Sony Xperia XZ Pro might have to offer.

Sony Xperia XZ Pro Display, Design & Body

According to the reports that have come so far, the Sony Xperia XZ Pro will have a 4K OLED display which will be sized at 5.7-inch. It’s unclear whether Sony is going to produce this display on its own or it’s going to order the display from a display giant like Samsung or LG. Sony was the first one introduce a 4K resolution smartphone. Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium had a resolution of 3840 x 2160, but that was in an IPS LCD screen. If Sony successfully manages to build a phone with a 4K-OLED screen, it will definitely be the first company with this kind of display and resolution once again.

As far as the outlook is concerned, it’s going to follow the same design language as that of the previous models. The difference is going to be in the aspect ratio. Xperia XZ Pro will have 18:9 aspect ratio. Sony will expand the screen towards edges finally.

It isn’t clear whether the phone will be built out of glass or aluminium. However, it’s going to be IP68 certified which means it will be water and dust resistant.

Hardware

Since it’s a flagship phone, Sony will not be using a CPU below Snapdragon 845. In 2018, Snapdragon 845 will become the standard CPU for the flagship Android handset.s The CPU will be accompanied by Adreno 630 GPU.

To speed up the processes on this phone, Sony will plant in a RAM of 6GB. Xperia XZ Premium will be a house to 128GB internal storage. A microSD card slot is also expected in this phone.

The USB Type-C will be installed at the bottom to charge the phone. A battery of whopping 3,420 mAh is rumoured to be there.

Cameras

So, here’s an upgrade worth having a look. Dual-shooters are coming to Sony’s handsets. The Xperia XZ Pro will have a shooter of 18MP with 1.33μm pixel size and another shooter of 12MP with 1.38μm pixel size. It’s unclear what new features Sony will add to this phone. On the front, there is going to be a 13MP shooter.

Software

Android 8.0 Oreo will power up the Sony Xperia XZ Pro.

Features

Fingerprint scanner, HDR support in cameras and some other new features will make their way to the phone.

Release Date

Earlier, it was expected that this phone will be launched at CES 2018. However, the phone didn’t see the light of the day at CES. Now that we have MWC heading towards ourselves, we will most probably and definitely see the Xperia XZ Pro coming out of the curtains. MWC is going to take place on 26th of February and 1st of March 2018.

Price

No words on price yet, but seeing the past track of Sony’s flagship prices, we can assume this phone to cost between $900 – $1000.

That’s all for now. Let us know what do you think about the upcoming smartphone. Do you think that this phone is going to be worth giving a try?

  1. There’s really nothing “Whopping” about that battery Mate. To power a 5.7″ 4k OLED screen, 4000mah would’ve been more acceptable. Even with the SD845 SOC, it’s not that much of a jump from the 835 because we’re not gonna see 7nm chips until Q3/4 of 2018 from Qualcomm or Samsung etc. I wish Sony well but, on their record they will inevitably shoot themselves in the foot, either by pricing or shoddy camera performance…
