Xiaomi has announced the MIUI 10. The announcement came with the release of the Mi 8 lineup. Xiaomi released the MIUI 10 at an exclusive launch event that took place in China. The MIUI 10 comes with a number of goodies that would urge a Mi user to update his phone to this latest software. The MIUI’s Developer ROM is already available for a handful of phones. You can download MIUI 10 on Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Mi 6 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

MIUI 10 – AI Portraits
Your phone doesn’t have to rely on its hardware to take incredible bokeh effect portraits. Xiaomi has added programmed the MIUI 10 to use AI to capture the portraits now. It means, it doesn’t matter what camera your phone has, the MIUI 10 is going to force it to take good pictures.
MIUI 10 – AI Preload
The AI Preload will use machine learning to keep an eye on your application usage trends. It will then reduce the loading time of applications depending on your frequently used applications. AI Preload is something that gives us a reflection of Android P. Xiaomi is already preparing its custom UI to make the best use of new features introduced in Android P.
MIUI 10 – New Recent Apps Menu
The recent apps menu now shows two applications in a row. This has been done in order to make the best possible use of the phones with a large screen-to-body ratio. The 2×2 rows give the display a very nice look and also make room for more applications to appear on the screen. This might reduce the need for scrolling down for every single application now.
MIUI 10 – Support for Mi Home Devices – No third-party application needed now
You can now control the entire Mi ecosystem with the help of your smartphone. You don’t have to install third-party applications to control the Mi smart gadgets. The MIUI 10 has inbuilt support for all the Mi Home Devices. Your phone running on MIUI 10 will have the support out of the box.
iPhone X has inspired masses. Google is preparing the Android P which has the Navigation Gestures too. And now, Xiaomi has also added the Navigation Gestures to the MIUI 10. The Navigation Gestures bar replaces the navigation buttons of the phone. You can tap, swipe and slide the slider to perform actions like opening recent apps menu, going back and to open the home screen.
MIUI 10 – Driving Mode
MIUI 10 will optimize the display of the phone to reduce distractions when put in driving mode. It will help the drivers when the navigation is turned on. We have been seeing manufacturers coming up with the best methods to optimize the driving mode. It’s good to see Xiaomi taking an action as well.
MIUI 10 – New Notifications Panel and Lockscreen
The MIUI 10 completely revamps the notification panel. The Lockscreen UI has been designed from scratch as well.

Download MIUI 10 on Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Mi 6, and Redmi Note 5 Pro
The MIUI 10 can be downloaded on Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Mi 6 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro with the help of a TWRP recovery. Since it’s a developer ROM, it’s not supposed to be fully stable. The ROM for Mi Mix 2, 2S and Redmi Note 5 Pro is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The ROM for Redmi Note 5 Pro is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. You also have to flash the Gapps separately on the phone. The ROM doesn’t include any applications inside, and particularly no Google Apps because we are talking about a Chinese brand.

How to install MIUI 10 on Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Mi 6 and Redmi Note 5 Pro
- Enable OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging mode on your phone.
- Open Minimal ADB and Fastboot.exe file from your computer’s desktop or from the installation folder.
- Connect your phone to the computer and allow USB debugging on the phone.
- Now in the command window, enter the following commands one by one.
- adb devices
- This will show you a list of devices attached along with a random string. This means the phone is connected.
- adb reboot bootloader
- This will reboot your phone into the fastboot mode. You should see the fastboot mode on the screen now.
- fastboot boot twrp-recovery-name.img
- Replace the twrp-recovery-name by the name of your recovery file. This command will boot your phone in the TWRP recovery mode.
- adb devices
- Now enter the TWRP recovery and tap Wipe > Swipe to factory reset.
- Get back to the main menu in TWRP and tap Install > Install Zip > Find the ROM.zip file and flash it.
- Similarly, go back and tap Install > Install Zip > Find the Gapps.zip file and flash it.
- Go back to the main menu, tap Reboot > System.
- Your phone will reboot now and load the MIUI 10. That’s all.
