Xperia M2 LTE and LTE A with the model number D2303 and D2306 has started receiving a new Android update. Surprisingly this update is based on Google’s all new Android 4.4.2 KitKat and the build number is 18.3.C.0.37. Xperia M2 initially ran on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and despite being busy with Sony’s next flagship, the Xperia Z3, Sony is still managing to bring all the latest updates for its existing devices on time.
The new update is rolling out to different users through OTA or through Sony PC companion and as usual, these updates will hit different regions with some variations in the time. For Android enthusiasts, who can’t wait for the update to reach through OTA or through Sony PC companion, the only way to install the latest firmware in this case it flash the ftf file through Sony Flashtool.
We’ve found and compiled up the generic/unbranded firmware ftf files, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat with the build number 18.3.C.0.37 and compiled up a complete guide in the succeeding post that will help you to get your device running this official firmware. Let’s go through the firmware details and then head towards the installation guide.
Early Preparations:
1. This is only for Sony Xperia M2 Dual D2303 & D2306!
This ROM is only for the device mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see your model number. Flashing this firmware on any other device will result in bricking it so make sure that you meet this requirement first of all.
2. Battery should be charged at least over 60%.
Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.
3. Backup everything!
Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.
- Backup SMS Messages
- Backup Call Logs
- Backup Contacts
- Backup Media – Copy your files manually to your PC or Laptop.
- Titanium Backup – If already rooted, use Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps, system data and other important content.
- Backup Nandroid – If CWM or TWRP installed previously, otherwise skip this step and perform this at the end of flashing.
4. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device.
Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap “Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.
5. Install and setup Sony Flashtool.
You must have installed Sony Flashtool. Find the full guide here. After installing Sony Flashtool, open the Flashtool folder from the drive where you installed it.Now open Flashtool>Drivers>Flashtool-drivers.exe and install the Flashtool, Fastboot & Xperia M2 drivers from the list. [Important]
6. Use OEM data cable to establish connection.
Make sure that you use the phone’s original data cable to establish connection between your phone and the PC. Using a different data cable might result in interrupting the firmware installation.

The camera works better than 4.3?, I use 4.3 and the camera sucks.
@disqus_izaQ2Lf4qD:disqus there are camera enhancements in this update. Should be better now.
I have a Xperia M2 (D2306 Model) with a Movistar carrier branded. But, the 4.4.2 Update isn’t here, so I’m thinking about flashing this Firmware, but, will it work fine? No troubleshoot or anything related to a carrier, sim or anything?
Thanks in advance.
@fuadnazal:disqus your device will become unbranded, means it won’t be sticking under the tag of Movistar anymore. If that doesn’t matter for you, go ahead and flash this firmware. Good Luck.
Thanks.
So, my Multimedia (Internet/Voice) plan still on-going even if I flash the device? Another question. How do I make the TA Partition if I must get the phone to warranty? XD.
Thanks in advance.
@fuadnazal:disqus I haven’t written the method to backup TA partition on our site yet, one will be up soon. However you may find several on other sites.
