Requirements:

  • An active internet connection.
  • Download and Install FTP app from Play Store.

Install CWM Recovery On Samsung Galaxy Note Edge N9150/F/G/T/P/K/S

Planning to get your hands on the unique Samsung Galaxy Note Edge? Well, if you’re going to do so, you won’t be able to sit back being relax and stop yourself from unleashing the true power of your latest beast. The specifications of the Galaxy Note Edge make it a great device to play with, out of the boundaries set by Samsung. On the front a 5.7″ QHD display with 524 ppi can be found. A 16 MP camera shooter is fixed on the back while a 3.7 MP on the front. Samsung used Qualcomm’s Sanpdragon 805 SoC to clocked at 2.7 GHz to power this device up, Adreno 420 GPU can be found accompanying this CPU. A RAM of 3 GB is there and the internal storage begins from 32 GB. The device can be found running on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.

That was a little intro to the device. Let’s get back to what we are here for now. The development stuff has started landing in for the Galaxy Note Edge. XDA senior member Chenglu has successfully compiled up the ClockworkMod recovery for our beloved device and it’s available for almost all the variants. In case you’re planning to tweak your device and flash some custom stuff on it, you may want to install a custom recovery first, for that you may follow the on-going guide as we will be installing CWM 6.0.5.1 on our beloved Samsung Galaxy Note Edge SM-N9150, N9150F, N9150G & N9150T. Let’s go through some early preparations and then install this recovery.

Note Edge CWM Recovery

Early Preps

1.This guide is intended for the Galaxy Note Edge users having the model number SM-N9150,SM-N915P, SM-N915S, SM-N915K, N915F, N915G or N915T only. In case you don’t have the device listed here, do not proceed. Using the files and method listed here will result in bricking it. You can check your device’s model number in Settings > General > About device.

2. Your phone’s battery must be charged at least over 60%. In case your phone goes dead during the flashing process, it might result in bricking it. Charge your device before you proceed.

3. Always use OEM data cable to establish connection between your phone and your computer. Using third party data cables might cause connection issues.

4.While using Odin3, turn off Samsung Kies, Windows Firewall and any Antivirus software if you’re using.

5. It is always recommended to backup your important data before you flash anything on your device. You may backup using the following guides on our site.

6. Follow the guidelines carefully. In case of a mishap, we may not be held responsible.

Disclaimer: The methods involved in flashing custom recoveries, ROMs and rooting your phone are highly custom and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturer that is SAMSUNG in our case. Files you need to download and install

Here’s how to install CWM 6.0.5.1 recovery on Samsung Galaxy Note Edge N9150/F/G/T/S/K/P

  1. Make sure that you’ve already followed the guidelines explained above.
  2. Now open Odin3 v.309.exe file from the folder you extracted.
  3. Put your Galaxy Note Edge in download mode now. To do so, turn it off completely first of all. Now turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home Key + Power Button. You will see a warning, press Volume Up to continue. Just in case this method isn’t working for you, you may find a method in our guide on how to boot into recovery and download mode on Samsung Galaxy devices.
  4. Once in download mode, connect your Note Edge to your PC now.
  5. The ID:COM box in Odin3 should turn blue once it has detected your phone.
  6. Now click on “AP” tab in Odin3. If you’re using Odin3 v3.07, you will click on PDA tab. The only options selected in Odin should be Auto reboot and f.reset, you may follow the picture shown below. Odin 3.09 explained. (2)
  7. Once a pop up opens up, select the recovery.tar file that you downloaded above for your variant.
  8. Once the file has been loaded, click on Start button in Odin3. It will start flashing the file and finish quickly.
  9. Once your phone reboots, unplug it.
  10. You can boot into CWM recovery mode now using the method explained in step 3, but this time in the three button combination, you will press Volume Up key instead of Volume Down key.

You may want to root your device now by flashing SuperSu now. As it’s pretty easy, here’s how to do it.

  1. Download SuperSu.zip file.
  2. Copy the SuperSu.zip file to the internal storage of your Note Edge.
  3. Boot your Note Edge into the recovery mode.
  4. Select “Install > Choose Zip from SD card > locate SuperSu.zip > Yes” and flash it.
  5. Reboot your device and find SuperSu installed in app drawer.
  6. Your device is rooted now. You may install Root Checker application to verify root now.

Galaxy Note Edge was Samsung’s most unique device ever having its display curved and extended towards right. The device sports top-notch specifications, similar to that of the Galaxy Note 4. On the front we have a 5.7-inch QHD display with 524 ppi and  2560 x 1440 pixels resolution. Samsung used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 Quad Core CPU clocked at 2.7 GHz to power this device up, Adreno 420 GPU is accompanying this CPU. A RAM of 3GB can be found inside while 32 GB internal storage is there as well. At the back, we have a 16 MP shooter and a 3.7 MP shooter can be found on the front. The Note Edge runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.

It took quite a while for Samsung to roll this device in around the world and there still is a number of countries waiting for it. Korean users happen to be lucky one in this regard as they’ve already received two variants SM-N915K and SM-N915S for their region. The device also looks like to be caught up by some developers and we are seeing the custom stuff coming up slowly. To begin with flashing tweaking and playing around with your device, you will need a custom recovery and XDA senior member Chenglu seems to be pretty fast in this regard as he has already compiled up ClockworkMod recovery for various variants of the Galaxy Note Edge, and the Korean users also happen to be lucky as there two variants SM-N915K and SM-N915S have also received this recovery.

If you’ve already got your hands on any of these two variants and now you’re looking for a method to install the CWM recovery, you might have spotted the right place to do so. In the proceeding guide, we are going to install this CWM 6.0.5.1 recovery on our beloved Korean Samsung Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915K & SM-N915S using Samsung’s flashtool Odin3. Let’s go through some early preps and then begin with the installation.

Before Proceeding you need the following:

How To Set Video as Boot Animation on Android Devices:

Step 1: Download the Boot animation executable files. Download Link | Mirror.

Step 2: Download the Root Browser.

Step 3: Now open the Root browser and go to /system/bin directory.

Step 4: Now in /system/bin directory replace the Boot animation executable files with one you downloaded in step 1.

Step 5: Now you have to change the permission of Boot animation executable files to rwx-rx-rx. [ Long Press on the files to change the replace files permissions. ]

Step 6: Download the same boot animation zip from here.

Step 7: Now open the boot animation zip file using any archive manager.

Step 8: You’ll find to MP4 files instead of .Png files.

Step 9: Now change the Video file with your video files.

Step 10: Open the root browser navigate to /system/media and replace the original boot animation zip file with your modded zip file.

In the following guide we’ll tell you how to manually backup the EFS and NV data on Samsung Galaxy S5. Every Samsung device has its own IMEI, Wireless MACaddress, product code, system ID and NV data. If some how one these files are corrupted during flashing a custom rom, it will result in Null IMEI, Not Registered on Network and Unknown baseband so to avoid these issues it would be better to Backup the EFS and NV Data.

Before proceeding any further you need the following:

# 1: Samsung Galaxy S5

# 2: Your device must have root permission. [ Root Guides ]

# 3: Battery must be charged 60%.

How to Manually Backup the EFS and NV Data on Samsung Galaxy S5 [SM-G900F/T/P/A/I/M/W8 variants ]:

Step 1: Download the Terminal emulator for Android from Google Play Store.

Step 2: Now open the app and write the following command in the prompt. [ Give Root Permission if you haven’t already ].

su

Step 3: Now type the following commands one by one in prompt.

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/mnt/sdcard/efs.img.ext4
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 of=/mnt/sdcard/modemst1.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 of=/mnt/sdcard/modemst2.bin

Step 4: After the process is done, you’ll find the following files in your root of internal memory.

efs.img.ext4 (20 MB)
m9kefs1.bin (4 MB)
m9kefs2.bin (4 MB)
m9kefs3.bin (4 MB)

Step 5: Now Copy all the files to a secure location.

How To Restore EFS on SM-G900F/T/P/A/I/M/W8 variants:

Step 1: Download the Terminal emulator for Android from Google Play Store.

Step 2: Now open the app and write the following command in the prompt. [ Give Root Permission if you haven’t already ].

su

Step 3: Now copy all the EFS backup files to the root of your internal memory.

Step 4: Now execute the following commands one by one.

dd if=/mnt/sdcard/efs.img.ext4 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12
dd if=/mnt/sdcard/modemst1.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13
dd if=/mnt/sdcard/modemst2.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14

Step 5: After all the commands were process successfully reboot your devices to apply changes.

Previously we posted the rooting method of Galaxy S5 SM-G900K on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The same method can be applied on the other Galaxy S5 variants being updated to Lollipop Firmware. Where Android users are eagerly waiting for the Lollipop Firmware, these devices are getting the rooting method on this firmware. While the expectations were with LG and Motorola devices, Samsung has stunned the world with the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop for its first flagship of this year, Galaxy S5. Where all the other variants has already received the root access, the Galaxy S5 SM-G900S was left behind and today we are here to bring this device up to the date.

We all know that getting the Google’s latest OS on your device is the first priority, but always keep in mind that if you are a user of a Rooted device, then you must wait for the Rooting method to be available in the market, before updating your device to the latest version. While on the other hand, you’ll also need the Custom Recovery to back-up all your data and other stuff and flashing the Official ROM also takes that away too. Usually it takes several weeks to bring such stuff for a device, but in this case everything is almost already here. 2. Battery should be charged at least 60%!

Your device’s battery shouldn’t be weak. In case your device goes dead during the flashing process, your device may get soft bricked and you might be in need of flashing stock firmware and that will ultimately result in wiping up your data as well. So, make sure that you charge your device before you start the flashing process.

3. Use the OEM data-cable to establish connection!

Always use the original data cable to establish connection between your Android device and your computer / laptop. Using ordinary data cables might interrupt the flashing process, so to avoid any mishap, you need to meet this requirement as well.

4. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. Also, clean install is always recommended, that means you will probably have to wipe your device to install the new firmware. So, you may backup everything as listed below.

5. Turn off Samsung Kies and other softwares while using Odin3!

Make sure that you turn off Samsung Kies while using Odin3 flashtool. Samsung Kies will interrupt Odin3 and will result in causing errors and may not let you flash your desired firmware. Also, make sure that you turn off any antivirus software you’ve installed and also disable firewall to avoid any connection and flashing issues.

6. Update your Device to Android 5.0 Lollipop!

Since this rooting method is only support the Android 5.0 Lollipop, there is now way will it work on any other build, so update your device to Android 5.0 Lollipop first, Follow the link to do so : Link

How to Install CWM Recovery:

  1. Download the Recovery file to your PC.
  2. Open Odin3.exe.
  3. Put your Galaxy S5 in download mode. To do so, turn it off and wait for 10 seconds. Turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home Button + Power Key simultaneously, You should see a warning, press Volume Up to continue. In case this method doesn’t work for you, try one from this guide.
  4. Connect your device to your PC.
  5. As soon as Odin detects your phone, the ID:COM box should turn blue.  Make sure that you’ve installed Samsung USB drivers before connecting.
  6. For Odin 3.09 hit the AP tab. Select the Recovery.tar.md5 that you downloaded and extracted above.
  7. Hit start and wait till the Recovery flashing is complete, as soon as your device restarts, remove it from PC.
  8. Wait for your device to reboot.
  9. That’s all!

How to Root the Device:

  1. Download both the Super Su and SphinX-Root to your device.
  2. Put your Galaxy S5 into Recovery mode.
  3. To do so, turn it off and wait for 10 seconds. Turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home Button + Power Key simultaneously, Quickly release the Power button when you see the Galaxy Logo Blink 3 times.
  4. Navigate to Install Zip > Choose Zip.
  5. Flash the SphinX-Root file first.
  6. Then flash the Super SU.zip
  7. Once done, Reboot the device.
  8. Use any root checker app to Verify the root access.

What to do if Rooting failed:

  1. If the Process failed, or you can’t able to root your device, then proceed.
  2. Flash the Stock Kernel using Recovery mode
  3. Then once again, reboot the device.
  4. Verify the Root permission, if you are lucky then your device will be rooted, otherwise keep trying.

5. Turn off Samsung Kies and other softwares while using Odin3!

Make sure that you turn off Samsung Kies while using Odin3 flashtool. Samsung Kies will interrupt Odin3 and will result in causing errors and may not let you flash your desired firmware. Also, make sure that you turn off any antivirus software you’ve installed and also disable firewall to avoid any connection and flashing issues.

6. Update your Device to Android 5.0 Lollipop!

How to Install CWM Recovery:

  1. Download the Recovery file to your PC.
  2. Open Odin3.exe.
  3. Put your Galaxy S5 in download mode. To do so, turn it off and wait for 10 seconds. Turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home Button + Power Key simultaneously, You should see a warning, press Volume Up to continue. In case this method doesn’t work for you, try one from this guide.
  4. Connect your device to your PC.
  5. As soon as Odin detects your phone, the ID:COM box should turn blue.  Make sure that you’ve installed Samsung USB drivers before connecting.
  6. For Odin 3.09 hit the AP tab. Select the Recovery.tar.md5 that you downloaded and extracted above.
  7. Hit start and wait till the Recovery flashing is complete, as soon as your device restarts, remove it from PC.
  8. Wait for your device to reboot.
  9. That’s all!

How to Root the Device:

  1. Download both the Super Su and SphinX-Root to your device.
  2. Put your Galaxy S5 into Recovery mode.
  3. To do so, turn it off and wait for 10 seconds. Turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home Button + Power Key simultaneously, Quickly release the Power button when you see the Galaxy Logo Blink 3 times.
  4. Navigate to Install Zip > Choose Zip.
  5. Flash the SphinX-Root file first.
  6. Then flash the Super SU.zip
  7. Once done, Reboot the device.
  8. Use any root checker app to Verify the root access.

What to do if Rooting failed:

  1. If the Process failed, or you can’t able to root your device, then proceed.
  2. Flash the Stock Kernel using Recovery mode
  3. Then once again, reboot the device.

Install TWRP Recovery On Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini SM-G800F

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is out for quite a while now. We are getting to see some custom stuff for this device coming out on the developer forums now and there are very good chances that we will be having a lot of custom ROMs, custom MODs and other tweaks to test the actual power of our beloved device in the coming few days. For the folks who do not have an idea about the Galaxy S5 Mini, the Galaxy S5 Mini is Samsung’s 3rd device in the mini series and the younger sibling of the Galaxy S5. Samsung pulled the curtains off from this device after the Galaxy S5. On the front we have a 4.5 inch Super AMOLED display having 326 ppi. 8 MP camera shooter is fixed at the back, 2.1 MP shooter can be found on the front. Galaxy S5 Mini does have a fingerpring scanner, and the device is water proof as well. Samsung equipped it with Exynos 3470 CPU and a RAM of 1.5 GB is fixed inside as well. Originally, the Galaxy S5 Mini runs on Android 4.4.2 out of the box.

There hasn’t been any further update out for this device yet, but just as we talked about the custom stuff in the start, there will be much stuff to play with on your device soon. But to load all that and to play with your device being safe and secure, you will need a custom recovery that will allow you to backup your current system, backup your efs partition and load any custom stuff on your device by flashing zip files. While TWRP recovery serves this purpose very well, XDA recongized contributor rutvikrvr brought it up for the users. At the moment, this is the only custom recovery available for the Galaxy S5 Mini and currently, the recovery is in its beta stage and is found to be working find on the SM-G800F variant of the Galaxy S5 Mini. Early Preparations

1. This guide is only for Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini SM-G800F

Make sure that your device is exactly as mentioned above. To check out what device you have, go to Settings > More/General > About Device or Settings > About Device and match the model number. Be careful about the device model number, flashing a file on a device not listed here might result in bricking it up. In that case, we may not be held responsible.

2. Battery should be charged at least 60%!

Your device’s battery shouldn’t be weak. In case your device goes dead during the flashing process, your device may get soft bricked and you might be in need of flashing stock firmware and that will ultimately result in wiping up your data as well. So, make sure that you charge your device before you start the flashing process.

3. Enable USB Debugging Mode

USB debugging mode should enabled on your device in order to avoid any connection issues. To enable USB debugging mode, go to settings > developer options > check “Allow/Enable USB Debugging”. In case you can’t find the developer options in settings, you will have to activate the options by going into settings > about device > tap the build number for 7 times and you should get the developer options under settings, and then you can enable USB debugging mode.

4. Use the OEM datacable to establish connection!

Always use the original data cable to establish connection between your Android device and your computer / laptop. Using ordinary data cables might interrupt the flashing process, so to avoid any mishap, you need to meet this requirement as well.

5. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

6. Turn off Samsung Kies and other softwares while using Odin3!

7. Disclaimer

The methods involved in flashing custom recoveries, ROMs and rooting your phone are highly custom and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturer that is SAMSUNG in our case. Also rooting your device will void its warranty and you will be no longer eligible for any kind of free device services by the manufacturers/warranty providers. The Galaxy Note 4 comes with Knox, so rooting will also trip the Knox counter and you won’t be eligible to claim the warranty anyway. In case of any mishap we may not be held responsible. Downloads Required

Download and extract Odin3 v3.09.
Download and Install Samsung USB drivers.
Download latest build of  TWRP Recovery.tar  | TWRP Recovery 3.0.0 for G800F/M/Y file.

Here’s How To Install TWRP 2.8 or 3.0 Recovery On Galaxy S5 Mini SM-800F

Note: The recovery linked here will also work for G800M and G800Y.

  1. Open Odin3.exe.
  2. Put your Galaxy S5 Mini in download mode. To do so, turn it off and wait for 10 seconds. Turn it on by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home Button + Power Key simultaneously, You should see a warning, press Volume Up to continue. In case this method doesn’t work for you, try one from this guide.
  3. Connect your device to your PC.
  4. As soon as Odin detects your phone, the ID:COM box should turn blue. Make sure that you’ve installed Samsung USB drivers before connecting.
  5. For Odin 3.09 hit the AP tab. Select the recovery.tar.md5 or recovery.tar, that you downloaded above.
  6. If you’re using Odin 3.07, you will select “PDA” tab instead of the AP tab, rest of the options remain untouched.
  7. Make sure that the options selected in your Odin are exactly as shown in the pic.Odin 3.09 explained. (2)
  8. Hit start and wait till the recovery flashing is complete, as soon as your device restarts, remove it from PC.
  9. You can now boot into recovery mode by turning off your device, and then turning it on by pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power Key.
  10. That’s all!

Root The Galaxy S5 Mini SM-G800F Using Recovery

Although there’s a much easy method available to root your Galaxy S5 Mini, that can be found here. But, in case you haven’t rooted yet and you’ve flashed the recovery only, you would like to have the root access too, here’s a way to root your device using the custom recovery.

  1. Download the Root Package.zip file [ UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.37.zip ]
  2. Copy the downloaded Root Package.zip file to your Galaxy S5 Mini’s SD card.
  3. Boot into recovery mode on your Galaxy S5 Mini, use step 11 in the recovery installation guide.
  4. Now Select “Install > Choose Zip from SD card > Root Package.zip > Yes / Confirm”.
  5. This will flash the Root Package and quickly gain the root access on your Galaxy S5 Mini.
  6. Reboot your device.
  7. Find SuperSu in the App Drawer.

How to check if the device is properly rooted or not?

  1. To do so, go to Google Play Store on your Galaxy S5 Mini.
  2. Find “Root Checker” and install it.
  3. Open Root Checker.
  4. Tap “Verify Root”.
  5. It will ask you for SuperSu rights, tap “Grant”.
  6. It should show you Root Access Verified Now!
