There is a new BlackBerry in town and it’s not BlackBerry KEYone the smartphone that TCL announced at the MWC, BlackBerry Aurora was officially announced for the Indonesian market today.
BlackBerry is forming strategic partnerships globally and licensing rights to produce Blackberry branded smartphones while they themselves focus on the security of the devices. For that they have partnered up with TCL, BB Merah Putih and Optemius Infracon to sell their devices in different regions. BlackBerry Aurora is the first smartphone by BB Mehra Putih for the Indonesian market.
You would be thinking, why Indonesia? Apparently Indonesia has a very strong consumer base and the company wants to retain that edge there.
In terms of specs, BlackBerry Aurora features a 5.5-inch 720p display. Under the hood the smartphone is equipped with Snapdragon 425 SoC, along with a Adreno 308 GPU which is paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB of native storage that can be extended. The device comes with BlackBerry’s DTEK security suite which makes the device one of the most secure Android smartphones. The smartphone runs Android Nougat and is powered by a 3000mAh battery.
The device will be available in three colors of Gold, Silver and Black and will retail at Rp 3,499,000 which is $261 approximately. BlackBerry Aurora at the moment is only available in Indonesia, but will be heading to other emerging markets like India in the coming months.
