Update Sony Xperia Z1 C6902 to Latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat 14.3.A.0.681 Firmware [How to – Guide]

Sony has been pretty much fair with it’s users for the last few months, specially regarding the Android updates. As it promised the customers about the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates and then unveiled the plans for Android 4.4.2 KitKat, it looks like Sony has decided to over come the promises it made and to avoid any disappointments at the user’s end. Recently, Sony has rolled out Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for it’s former flagship device accompanied by a few of it’s family members as well. Xperia Z1 C6902 owners can now have a KitKat firmware based on build number 14.3.A.0.681 for their device and can give their device a whole new life as the new app comes up with performance enhancements, bug fixes, camera has been imporved, there is a WiFi data transfer option and a lot more that you may checkout once you install this update.

So, to get this latest and greatest version of Android, you’ll probably need to wait for the update to hit your region either via Sony PC Companion or through OTA updates but we all know that both these can take time and become a pain for those who can’t wait. If that’s the case with you, you may not worry about it anymore and get this update immediately on your device as we’ve a detailed guide right here for you that will help you to get your device a break with Android 4.4.2 KitKat. All you need to do is to go through this step by step guide carefully.

Pre Requisites:

    1. As mentioned, this firmware is only for Xperia Z1 C6902. Do not try this on any other phone, that may result in bricking your device. Check your device’s model number in Settings > About device.
    2. You must have installed Sony Flashtool. Find the full guide here.
    3. After installing Sony Flashtool, open the Flashtool folder from the drive where you installed it.
    4. Now open Flashtool>Drivers>Flashtool-drivers.exe and install the Flashtool, Fastboot & Xperia Z1 drivers from the list. [Important]
    5. Your phone must be charged at least over 60%. This is highly recommended in order to prevent any power issues during the flashing process.
    6. Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap “Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.
    7. Make sure that you back up all your important media content,  contacts, call logs and text messages. This is highly recommended and important in case something goes wrong during the flashing process or in case you select the data wipe option before flashing. You can easily restore whenever you need.
    8. To flash this firmware, you do not need to root your device, you do not need to unlock the bootloader. All you need is, your device must be the one mentioned and must be running on Android 4.2.2 or 4.3 Jelly Bean.
    9. Download the firmware file properly.
    10. Use the OEM data cable to connect your phone to your PC. Using any other data cable might cause connection problems.
    11. This firmware can be flashed on Xperia Z1 in any region/any country.
    12. Alright! Follow this guide to the letter in order to prevent any mishap.

How to Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat 14.3.A.0.681 on Xperia Z1 C6902:

  1. Before moving forward, please make sure that you’ve read the pre requisites and ensure that you are set to go ahead.
  2. Download the latest firmware Android 4.4.2 KitKat 14.3.A.0.681 FTF file. Link 1 | Link 2 [Generic]
  3. Copy the file and paste in Flashtool>Firmwares folder.
  4. Open Flashtool.exe now.
  5. Hit the small lightening button on the top left corner and select Flashmode.
  6. Select the FTF firmware file that you placed in the Firmware folder. 
  7. From the right side, select what do you want to wipe. Data, cache and apps log, all wipes are recommended, perhaps you may select if you don’t want.
  8. Click on OK, and it will start preparing the firmware for flashing. This may take a little while to load.
  9. As soon as the firmware is loaded, it will prompt you to attach the phone by turning it off and keeping the back key press.
  10. For Xperia Z1, Volume Down key will do the job of back key, just turn off your phone, keep the Volume Down key pressed and plug in the data cable.
  11. As soon as the phone is detected in Flashmode, the firmware will start flashing, Do not leave the Volume Down key until the process is complete.
  12. As soon as you see “Flashing ended or Finished Flashing” leave the Volume Down key, plug the cable out and reboot.
  13. That’s All! Congrats! You’ve installed latest Android 4.4.2 kitkat on your Xperia Z1 C6902. Enjoy

Well, I am not going to discuss too much on this post, after a little intro and reason I will show you how it is done. Now, many of you have given name to your Mac and the only place it is showing on is the Lock-Screen, there you will see your name and after you log-in there is no other place where you can see it. So, here is a little presentation to show you how to see the nickname you have given t your mac. It will only appear on your Menubar but it will be noticeable. Here is how you can display it.

This may cause a little worry for the Jailbreak users until and unless there is a way to get beyond the boundaries on your iOS device. While the research work is going on, a method to Jailbreak iPhone 4 running iOS 7 has already landed. The new method is includes the use of Geeksn0w that is based on wincom’s opensn0w project that is works on Geohot’s exploit limera1n bootrom that came out in 2010. Geeksn0w only works with iPhone 4, that means you won’t be able to use this tootl on any other device in case you want to break the jail. How to Jailbreak Tethered iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1:

  1. Download Geeksn0w, iTunes, Java Development Kit, .Net Frameworks and install all these.
  2. Once installed open Geeksn0w.
  3. Connect your iPhone 4 to your PC.
  4. Enter DFU mode while your iPhone 4 is connected to your PC. In order to do so, press and hold Power + Home Button on your iPhone 4 for about 10 seconds, after 10 seconds leave the Power button only and keep holding the Home Button for 10 seconds more.
  5. Now, inside Geeksn0w click on “Jailbreak” and chose your iPhone 4 depending on it’s model.
  6. Now leave your iPhone 4 connected to your PC, as soon as Geeksn0w prompts, you should put your device in DFU mode using the same method in step 4.
  7. As soon as your iPhone 4 reboots, Geeksn0w will automatically reboot it in 2 minutes in order to show the installation progress finished and once again you will have to reboot your device in DFU mode using the same method in step 4.
  8. As soon as the installation is completely ended and your device has rebooted for the last time, it will now have Cydia installed on it, but it won’t be usable until your device reboots.
  9. As mentioned, you will have to boot your iphone 4 everytime Tethered with Geeksn0w after you reboot it.
