Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime, also known as the Galaxy On5, was released in October of 2016. This is a low-end smartphone with a PLS TFT touchscreen display. The display size on the Galaxy J5 Prime is 5.0-inches and it has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. Galaxy J5 Prime is powered by Exynos 7570 SoC accompanied by Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. The RAM on this phone is of 2GB and it has the internal storage chip of 16 or 32GB. At the back, there is a 13MP camera. The selfie shooter is of 5MP. Galaxy J5 Prime has a 2400 mAh battery inside. The device ran on Android Marshmallow out of the box. It was updated to Android Nougat later on. Now is the time flash Android 8.0 Oreo to give this phone a whole new look.

Before flashing the Oreo stock ROM manually, open Settings on your phone. In Settings, go to the Software section and check for a Software Update. If there is an update available, try updating your phone via OTA. In case there is no update, go ahead with the manual firmware installation method.

In order to install the firmware manually, we will use the Odin 3.13.1. This latest version of Odin is used to install all the Android Oreo files on the Samsung Galaxy phones.

Preparations

  1. This guide is only for Galaxy J5 Prime G570F.
  2. Charge your phone up to 50%.
  3. Backup each and everything if you are planning of performing a clean installation.
  4. Enable OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging on your J5 Prime.
  5. Close Samsung Kies or Smart Switch while using Odin.
  6. Use OEM Data Cable to install the firmware.
  7. Follow the remaining steps carefully.

Installing Android Oreo on Galaxy J5 Prime

  1. First of all, open Odin3.exe file on your computer.
  2. In Odin, click on Options > Make sure that only options checked are F.Reset.Time and Auto Reboot.
  3. Get back to main menu in Odin.
  4. Click on AP, select the AP file. Now click on CP, select the CP file. Click on BL, select the BL file.
  5. Now click on CSC, select the CSC file if you want to perform clean installation, otherwise, select the HOME_CSC file.
  6. Power down your Galaxy J5 Prime now.
  7. Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power button to get into Download Mode. as the phone boots up, press Volume UP to continue.
  8. Connect Galaxy J5 Prime to the computer now.
  9. Odin will show “Added” in the log box and also show a Blue light making the connection successful.
  10. Click on the “Start” button in Odin now.
  11. Firmware will be flashed and your phone will reboot automatically in about 5-7 minutes. Disconnect the phone now.
