Nexus 5X owners, it’s Android Pie time! The Google Nexus 5X can be updated to Android Pie via AOSP custom ROM. The AOSP based Android Pie ROM for the Nexus 5X has been built by XDA senior memberĀ argraur. The developer has named this ROM as Nexus PieX. The current version is v1.0. The ROM is still in its very early stages, however, it has got its basic features intact.

Android 9 Pie Nexus PieX Custom ROM – A Near Stable ROM
Nexus PieX Android Pie custom ROM has its phone making and messaging capabilities working right. It’s WiFi is working all well as well. The Bluetooth will work flawlessly too. Camera, Audio, Video Playback, Flashlight, NFC and all other such features are working in this ROM. The only thing that doesn’t work is the incoming VoLIT calls and SafetyNet.
If the latter two are not such a big deal for you, you should definitely go ahead to get a hang of the Android Pie on your pretty old Nexus 5X. The Android Pie on Nexus 5X can be installed with the help of a TWRP recovery. The ROM doesn’t come with any application pre-installed. So, to get an application like the Google Play Store and Play Services, you will have to flash the Gapps. A flashback at the Nexus 5X
The Nexus 5X was released in October 2015. The phone came out with a screen of 5.2-inches having 1080p resolution. Nexus 5X was powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 CPU and Adreno 418 GPU. It had internal storage of 16 or 32GB and a RAM of 2GB only. The camera at the back of this phone was of 12.3MP and on the front, it was of the only 1.3MP. Inside this phone, there was a 2,700 mAh battery. The phone originally ran on Android Marshmallow 6.0. It was upgradable to Android Oreo. Google will not update the Nexus 5X to Android Pie. The journey of Nexus 5X updates has ended on the Android Oreo.

Preparations to install Nexus PieX Android Pie AOSP Custom ROM
- This ROM is only for the Nexus 5X. Do not try it on any other phone.
- This is a custom ROM. If you don’t know how to handle a custom ROM, either follow the instructions very carefully or avoid installing it.
- Backup all of your important data including contacts, call logs, media content and everything else.
- The bootloader of your Nexus 5X must be unlocked.
- The Nexus 5X must have a TWRP recovery installed on it.
- Follow the instructions carefully now.

Install Nexus 5X Android Pie AOSP Custom ROM
- Copy the ROM and Gapps files to your phone’s internal or external storage.
- Now power down your phone.
- Press and hold Vol Up + Vol Down + Power button to get into Fastboot mode.
- Use Volume keys now to bring Recovery mode, press Power key to enter in it.
- In TWRP, click on Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Select DATA > wipe it.
- Now in the TWRP recovery, click on Install > Install Zip > Locate ROM.zip file > Swipe screen to flash.
- Similarly, click on Install once again and flash the Gapps.zip file this time.
- Now go back to the main menu, click on Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Select Cache & Dalvik Cache and wipe it.
- Reboot into the system now.
- Enjoy the newly installed Android Pie now.
