Xiaomi R1 appears to be another 18:9 phone with an affordable price

With most mobile phones coming with an 18:9 aspect ratio, we are bound to see more affordable devices feature these form of displays in the future. Xiaomi, being a popular brand because it managed to piggyback the wave of success thanks to the release of premium products for an extremely competitive price, could be working on an affordable smartphone.

Recently, Xiaomi announced the Mi A1, which belongs to the Android One program and offers terrific hardware from the perspective of Android One smartphones, which often feature less than impressive internal specifications. According to a leaked press image, the Xiaomi R1 is going to be the name of the phone that the Chinese manufacturer will be working on and since there is no home button at the front, you can be sure that it is going to be present at the backside.

That is not a bad thing but if the fingerprint reader’s position is the same as the one present on the Galaxy S8, then lots of users are going to form negative opinions about the phone. While there are no specification details provided about the smartphone, we are leaning on the fact that it could feature similar hardware to the Mi A1 while featuring that 18:9 aspect ratio.

It is definitely a long shot, but other than an image there is absolutely nothing that we know about the smartphone. If this ends up being an Android One device, then it will be the first to feature an 18:9 display thereby offering users a more premium offering from devices in this category of phones.

Do you think the Xiaomi R1 is going to be rebranded Mi A1 with a smaller percentage of bezels and a taller display?
