Galaxy S6 will eventually be updated to Google’s Android Oreo

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 is three generations old, which obviously means that a chance to see a software update on the previous-generation flagship is long gone unless you root the phone and install a custom ROM based on Android Oreo. Well if you do not want to take the risk of rooting your device and have somehow managed to hold onto it for this long then we have some very special news for you.

Samsung has been pushing the Android Oreo beta version to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, with the company already confirming that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will be receiving the update soon. According to these leaked screenshots, it appears that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge lineup of phones are also going to be receiving the same update.

A Reddit user named CyberConCoder got a confirmation from a total of four different Samsung representatives. Though you should continue to doubt the words of Samsung’s support centers, it is quite impossible that these support centers would end up providing the wrong information four times in a row.

If you check out these screenshots, the information that the people have said is consistent, which means that Samsung’s software developers must be working hard on getting the update released as fast as possible. Unfortunately, upon asking when the software update will be officially released for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, an estimated time was not provided.

Regardless, the fact that these previous-generation phones are still capable of receiving software updates is a miracle on its own. An era where consumers have almost moved on from devices with physical home buttons and onto smartphones that feature larger screens and smaller bezels, it would be very easy to move on from the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

Samsung on the other hand, has different plans set in motion for both of these devices.
