Here is yet another update from the land of lawsuits as Apple and Qualcomm continue to lock horns against one another. Qualcomm is eager to ban the sales of the iPhone X in America because according to the chip manufacturing company, it is due to several patent infringement cases that concern technologies which it invented that help boost bandwidth, save power, and enhance photos from the dual-lens camera systems.
Another reason why Qualcomm wants the iPhone X banned in the United States is because smartphone’s gesture-based navigation system copies Palm’s webOS, which is protected by patents that Qualcomm purchased back in 2014 from HP.
If you take a look at the video given at the bottom, you will be able to see similarities in the iPhone X and webOS navigation interface, with the latter first introduced back in 2010 when Palm’s investments in mobile were a big thing.
It might look like Qualcomm is suing Apple because the iPhone maker sued Qualcomm in the first place, but the company says that this is not the case.
“You can’t react that quickly to file lawsuits. We were in the process of filing three new district court cases in San Diego today, and one new ITC case in Washington, D.C. Those involve a group of 16 patents that are additional to the ones we have already sued them on, and five of those 16 are ones we are suing them on in the ITC seeking an exclusion order.”
If you take a look at the video, you will have a better idea on what Qualcomm means when it claims that the iPhone X is copying the webOS gestures.
