HTC’s last popular smartphones were the HTC Sensation and the Sensation XL. Since then, the company hasn’t been able to come up with a flagship that could pose a serious competition to its rivals. HTC has been going down with every single year passing by. The company is making efforts to keep its boat from sinking. To add to its efforts, the company is looking forward to deploying the top of the notch SoC in its phones with 5G connectivity.

In the upcoming HTC smartphone, the company is going to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 CPU. Since the Snapdragon 855 CPU is built through the 7nm process, it offers better performance and efficiency. The Snapdragon 855 is supposed to be a better chipset than Huawei’s Kirin 980 and Apple’s A12 SoC.

The Snapdragon 855 CPU is coupled with the Snapdragon X24 model by default. This setup supports the 4G LTE connectivity. To enable 5G on its phones, HTC is looking into making the use of Snapdragon X50 modem. While this is not a default modem on the Snapdragon 855, it will be available to the phone makers as an option.

Seeing the past release dates of Qualcomm’s flagship SoC’s, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 should come out in December this year. This means the HTC’s flagship phone with the kind of configuration mentioned above is not coming in this year. The company hasn’t given any hint on any further details of the phone. The said phone will not come out anytime soon. HTC will probably release a couple of new smartphones before it brings out this flagship.
