All Galaxy-branded phones categorized under the flagship category came with an iris scanner but are you aware why people continued using the fingerprint sensor even though it was mounted at such a difficult place? It is quite simple, the fingerprint sensor is much quicker than the iris scanner and to be honest, you could not even use this security feature when there was pitch-black darkness because the iris would not be visible to the scanner.
Fortunately, Samsung might have figured this out and with the eventual release of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Rumor points towards a 3MP camera that will also act as an iris scanner. As a comparison, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ both featured a 2MP camera that also doubled as an iris scanner.

The 3MP camera should allow more light to enter the lens, allowing it to detect the user’s iris to unlock the Galaxy S9 swiftly and painlessly. This scanner will perform well in low-light environments. It will also be able to recognize the user if they are using glasses or not, so it will be a much smarter scanner in the end.
Last, but not least you not only need a security feature to act smarter, but fast too, which is a ‘no brainer’ why consumers resort to using a fingerprint reader. The iris scanner rumored for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ has also been reported to be faster than the scanner in the Galaxy S8, so hopefully, it will give users a lot of freedom in choosing whether to use their fingers to unlock the phone or their eyes.
