Everything You Need To Know About The Razer Phone

We have always heard of a gaming laptop or a gaming computer, how about a gaming smartphone? Well, until yesterday, there was nothing called a gaming smartphone. Razer, a company with a famous name in the gaming world has taken the step and launched a gaming smartphone. The Razer Phone looks like an absolute beast with the specifications and features it has to offer. Razer is trying to defy all the odds here with the new powerful smartphone. It has incredible hardware packed inside a solid body.

Back in 2015, Razer acquired Robin, the company behind the Nextbit smartphone. Robin closed down and ended the support for the Nextbit smartphone. This was a crowdfunded company and it couldn’t carry along with the users. Razer acquired it for good and the new Razer phone looks like a result of that acquisition that happened back in 2015. In fact, the Razer Phone’s design is much similar to that of the Nextbit Robin. The difference here is, the Razer phone is an all anodized aluminum square while the Nextbit was a total plastic handset. Let’s look and analyze the spec-sheet of the Razer Phone now.

Display & Dimensions

The Razer Phone on the front has a 5.7-inch IGZO LCD 120Hz display. This is the first ever smartphone to come with a 120Hz display. Usually, the gaming monitors have a 144Hz display. It’s quite surprising for a smartphone to near this frequency. The 120Hz display on the Razer Phone can really make a difference here. Apple already makes the use of 120Hz displays on its iPads, but right now, we are talking about a smartphone here. Also, the QHD resolution with 515ppi is there to produce all the crips and those beautiful colors.

Razer Phone comes with huge bezels. As mentioned, this is a metallic smartphonItst’s dimensions are 158.5 x 77.7 x 8 mm and it weighs at 197g. The aspect ratio is 16:9. Razer Phone is not water and dust resistant. Also, this phone doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Hardware & Features

First off, the Razer Phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC accompanied by Adreno 540 GPU. There is a whopping 8GB RAM. There is no 4GB or 6GB RAM variant here. Since this is a gaming-dedicated smartphone, we have that monstrous 8GB RAM on the plate. The internal storage is 64GB. Razer Phone has a microSD card slot as well which supports up to 256GB of external storage. Razer Phone is a 4000 mAh battery moniker.

There is a USB Type-C connector which works for both the charging and headphone connection. The two giant front-facing speakers on this phone are powered by Dolby ATMOS audio.

Razer Phone becomes the first smartphone to come with the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+. The phone goes from 0 to 85% within 1 hour of charging.

As far as the gaming aspects of this smartphone are concerned, Razer has tried to make it the best. It’s not just the boosted up hardware that Razer is trying boast off. The Razer Cortex technology has somewhat made its way to the smartphone in the form of Razer Game Booster. This feature will help gamers to optimize their smartphone’s performance for a particular game. Gamers can set a particular resolution, CPU clock speed, do-not-disturb mode and frame rate for their desired games.

There is a fingerprint scanner embedded inside the power button which is located on the side of the smartphone. There is a volume rocker on the other side of the smartphone.

Currently, the Razer Phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The phone will be updated to Android Oreo at the start of the year 2018. The good thing here is that the Android 7.1.1 Nougat is near Vanilla Android here.
