Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have opened a gateway for exceptionally premium phones without breaking the bank

Xiaomi has announced two affordable devices named the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus. The company’s aggressive plan to launch less pricey phones but featuring decent hardware is going very well. While the 18:9 aspect ratio of these phones can never match the embellished design of the Mi MIX 2, but who knows what Xiaomi’s plan is going to be for 2018.

Coming to the specifications, The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ screen that boasts a resolution of 1440 x 720. The chipset powering the phone is a Snapdragon 450. It belongs to the entry-level category of chipsets, but you will find an impressively-sized battery capacity of 3,300mAh. One model will feature either 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, while the other one will get 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

What about the price, might you ask? Well, the starting price of the Redmi 5 will cost $120 (799 yuan) while the better performing version will get a $135 (899 yuan) price, but only limited to China. If you plan on ordering the phone through an online store, other costs might be incurred, resulting in you paying more for the device.

If you want better hardware, then you should pick up the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, which has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display and resolution of 2160 x 1080. It is also sporting a more powerful Snapdragon 625 chipset that will draw power from a larger 4,000mAh battery.

According to Xiaomi, the battery will easily be able to last you for two days, depending on the sort of activities you will carry out on the handset. The price for this model? It will be available with 3GB of RAM/32GB of storage that will go for $150 (999 yuan) and another model that will get 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for $195 (1,299 yuan).

What is the release date of the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus? They will launch on December 12 in China and after that, you will more than likely come across them in other markets, for a varied price tag.
