Update Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082/I9082L to Android 4.4.4 KK With CosmicCM ROM

Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos is currently running on Android 4.2.2 and it doesn’t seem that Samsung will be bringing any further version of Android to this device anytime in near future. The only way to get your device a new life at the moment is the use of a custom ROM. Google has gone far ahead with its Android operating system, and currently it is at Android 4.4.4 KitKat which is far away from Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. If you happen to be a Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 or I9082L owner and you wish to get the latest and greatest version of Android running on your device, we’ve found a very nice custom ROM that will do the job for you and get a KitKat for your device.

ComicCM ROM by XDA dev k2wl  and is AOSP based custom ROM available for the Galaxy Grand GT-I9082/L. This ROM comes with some cool features that are added by the developer himself, atop of this, as metioned this ROM is based on the latest Android by Google, the Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Most of the custom ROMs have been lagging the double SIM feature, luckily, this ROM has a working Dual SIM mode.

In the following post we are going to update the Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos GT-I9082 and GT-I9082L to Android 4.4.2 KitKat using the CosmicCM 4.4.4 custom ROM. In case you’ve been looking for an upgrade, all you need to do for now is to follow this guide carefully.

Here are the early preparations:

      1. This ROM is only for Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos GT-I9082/I9082L. Do not try this on any other device, please check your device’s model in Settings > About Device > Model.
      2. Your device must have a custom recovery installed, in case you’re missing it you may Follow our full guide here to install CWM.
      3. Your device’s battery should be charged at least over 60%. This is highly recommended in order to prevent any power issues during the flashing process.
      4. Make sure that you backup your important media content, Contacts, Call Logs & Messages. This is highly recommended just in case something goes wrong and you need to reset your phone.
      5. If you already have rooted your device, use Titanium Backup to back up all your important apps + system data. Also if you are using a custom recovery, it is recommended that you backup your current system using that first. [Just for the sake of safety]. Here’s our full Nandroid Backup guide.
      6. You will have to go through Data Wipes during installation of this ROM, so make sure that you have backed up all the mentioned data.
      7. Make EFS backup of your phone before you flash this ROM.
      8. You need enough confidence to flash this ROM on your Galaxy Grand Duos.
      9. Alright! Go ahead and flash the custom firmware, follow this guide to the letter.

Disclaimer: The methods involved in flashing custom roms and rooting your phone are highly custom and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturer that is SAMSUNG in our case. Also rooting your device will void its warranty and you will be no longer eligible for any kind of free device services by the manufacturers/warranty providers. In case of any mishap we may not be held responsible. Follow these instructions to the letter to avoid any mishap or bricking. Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.

  • Dear Usama, i can´t copy de CM COSMIC it appears a notice thas says " Your device stop working," but i can copy normally de GAPPs and any other file. what can i do?

    • @inspyra:disqus are you getting this error while copying the file from PC to phone? if that's happening, then its not something wrong with the file.. Please make sure that your device is properly connected. Another thing you can do is, use an external SD card and use a card reader to plug it into your laptop/PC and copy the files to card and give it a try. Let me know if it works or not.

      • Dear Usama, i tried with a card
reader, and no problem copying the file, but when I tried to install it,
all the process has been aborted, and the cellphone stop de installation
of CM COSMIC,... I remember that when I tried to open the file in my lap top
with RAR, I couldn’t, it seem that the file CM COSMIC is damaged.

        • @inspyra:disqus Give me some time, I'll do some research work on the developer's thread and update you soon.

          • Dear Osama i tried with this one v4.8.1 (it is the last version in XDA, everything perfect, but the Gapps are imcompatible. looking for GAPPS.

          • @inspyra:disqus thanks for letting me know, I've updated the ROM link in the guide as well now. I've also attached the new Gapps link. Give it a try and it should work fine. Good Luck

  • Hi Usama,
Call recorders are not working with this ROM. I tried with Androrec & Automatic Call recorder. Could you please guide me to resolve this issue....

    • @disqus_rOokepcG35:disqus if you may want to give a try to Dr Ketan's Call Recorder as that's guaranteed to work. Good Luck.

  • @sushant_b:disqus that's good if the SIMs are working without issuing these commands. You don't need to do anything else. Thanks for the feedback.

  • Hi, install your version toy is happy for the speed, but you as experts, may install radio and OTG in the near future?

  • Hi, install your version and I'm happy for the speed, but you as experts, may install radio and OTG in the near future?

    • @eduardorojashuerta:disqus no, it will result in soft bricking your phone, and you won't get any OTA update while you're on custom ROM.

  • Hi, sadly I must say I take kitkat 4.4.4 from GT 9082L, sticks, restarts, I consume a lot of battery, all this from one day to another, it will be some virus, I have installed ESET. Thanks now I will make a down grade to 4.4.2.

    • @eduardorojashuerta:disqus you may try clearing up your cache and dalvik cache. No, there won't be any virus and ESET is non of use. Android doesn't need an antivirus actually. You may try downgrading or try using another custom ROM. But Custom ROMs are never bug free.

  • after installing kitkat 4.4.4 external sd card is not showing so i cant move any file from/to external SDcard

  • hi, my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Grand grand duos I9082L Duos, I followed the process and restart it but only after logo appears and does nothing more there. what should I do?

  • Hello.I have upgraded my grand into this 4.4 kitkat.but I m nt liking the display.so I want to downgrade into jellybean 4.2.2,.kindly can I know the process to downgrade it?
