The iPhone you purchase next year could finally get a larger battery capacity thanks to a new design

Apple’s iPhone, particularly the small screen versions always come with tiny battery capacities. While the larger screen ones do come with decent cell sizes, they are pale in comparison to the competition.

The iPhone X featured a dual-battery design and it looks like we might not be seeing this anymore. This is because according to a report from KGI Securities and their analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhones coming in 2018 will not get a dual-battery design, but a one-cell design instead.

“Two new 2H18 iPhone models could adopt L-shaped battery (6.5” & 5.8” OLED models), with capacity upgraded for all models. In order to extend battery life, we believe it is necessary to expand battery capacity because all three new 2H18 models will be equipped with TrueDepth Camera, which consumes more power. We think Apple (US) is developing a 1-cell L-shaped battery in collaboration with LGC (KR). If the new battery enters mass production on time, the 5.8” OLED iPhone model will come with a battery with larger capacity (2,900-3,000mAh with higher RFPCB ASP $2.1-2.4). For the 6.1” LCD model, we expect Apple to keep the rectangular battery design to keep a better cost structure, and we expect capacity could be larger than those of the iPhone 8 series.”

So what is a one-cell design might you ask? It features a battery with an L-shape that will be present in smartphones that will give them up to a 10 percent better charge.

So what does that mean for you guys? It means that you will be able to experience 10 percent better battery life from the 2018 lineup of smartphones. While software optimization goes a long long way in ensuring that the user will be able to experience better battery, there is nothing like getting a larger battery inside your smartphone.

All iPhone models have been rumored to get rid of the bezel design and switch to an iPhone X-type design. Will you be hoping to see the next iPhone come with a battery that is in the range 2,900-3,000mAh?
