Schematics of Samsung Galaxy S8 hint at18:9 aspect ratio and rear fingerprint scanner

Samsung’s upcoming flagship is a fodder for rumor mills at the moment with people speculating about its features and the strategies the company will adopt to beat the competition. In the past few weeks we have seen different cases and renders leak of the alleged Galaxy S8 which have shown the design changes with the 3.5mm headphone jack still under debate, whether Samsung has given it a boot or not. Now a new report straight out of Korea claims that Samsung for Galaxy S8 will make use of an 18:9 aspect ratio, which if you remember is the same as will be used by LG G6.

This information was brought forth by CNET Korea and they have also drawn the devices according to the schematics that were provided to them. Both the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will sport a dual-curved display, as the company is making it a trademark for its flagship devices. According to the images the aspect ration of the screen is 18:5:9. You would be wondering why companies are moving towards such an unusual aspect ration ,as 16:9 aspect ratio is more common among companies.

The choice of the display size has to do more with the type of content that is under development. Different movies and Nextflix is creating content in the 2:1 Univisium format. This is one of the major reasons that both LG and Samsung are moving towards producing devices suitable to content that is available now and will be produced in the future. This would allow the devices to fit more scenes in a frame and provide a multitasking  opportunities in the split-screen. In addition, one always needs to innovate and test new things, if companies fail to do that, they risk stagnation.

The renders also show that the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the rear of the device and there will be no home button. This feature has been seen in earlier renders too and today’s report gives more credence to earlier rumors. The fingerprint scanner is placed beside the camera. Beforehand, the sensor was embedded in the home button. Th removal of the iconic home button has led to an increased display with slimmer bezels, providing people with a true edge-to-edge display.

Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy S8 on 29th March with dedicated events held in USA and Europe. The company usually announces  their S-flagship at the MWC, but this time around they are not going to do so. The invitations that rolled out, hint at a tablet being unveiled at the event with Galaxy Tab S3 as the top contender.
