Samsung will disable battery charging for Galaxy Note 7 this month

Some people are still clinging to their Galaxy Note 7 phablets. Galaxy Note 7 was discontinued after the battery of the smartphone kept exploding even after the replacement in the first recall. The company is South Korea received 97% of the handsets back and 3% of the users are still clinging to their handsets despite Samsung’s efforts. After giving people ample time to return the product, the company will be pushing an update which will disable charging for Galaxy Note 7.

The report out of South Korea confirms that the company will be sending out an update later this month which will disable the charging for the device. After this update, users will be able to use the device only by keeping it plugged in and charging all the time. Sounds quite inconvenient.

Samsung has employed similar tactics in other markets so that the device would be rendered useless. In the US, a similar update was sent to Galaxy Note 7 users. For some countries the Korean giant has worked with individual carriers and to cut off mobile network access.

Samsung handled the recall and the subsequent discontinuation very well and then publicly disclosed the issues that caused the problem in the first place. Now it seems like Samsung is closing the book on Galaxy Note 7.
