Both the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus run on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Samsung has renamed its TouchWiz UI to Samsung Experience. Besides renaming the UI, Samsung has also removed a lot of junk from the device and made the UI much better in terms of performance. These new phones come with the best possible performance and battery life optimizations from the company. Although these phones are supposed to run great and smooth in your hands, the issues do not need an invitation to come up.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Slow Performance Issues

Got your new Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus and its acting weird? Well, there can be several reasons which can slow your phone down. You can try these fixes one by one and your phone’s performance should be back up.

  1. Reboot your phone

Simply try restarting your phone. Sometimes the process running in the background can slow down the phone. Rebooting the phone will kill all unnecessary processes and start the necessary processes from scratch.

2. Clear your phone’s cache

  1. Reboot your phone into recovery mode.
  2. Wipe cache partition
  3. Reboot now.
  4. Your phone should be fine.

3. Reboot in Safe Mode to check if an application is a culprit

  1. Reboot your phone in Safe Mode.
  2. It will disable all the applications.
  3. If your phone works fine in Safe Mode, that means an application is slowing it down.
  4. One by one uninstall all the applications that you have recently installed and see what uninstallation makes the phone work fine.
  5. That’s all.

4. Disable Animations using Developer Options

  1. Go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Tap the Build number for 7 times.
  2. It will enable Developer Options in settings.
  3. Now go back to settings > scroll all the way down and open Developer Options.
  4. In Developer Options, find these three and turn them off:
    1. Window animation scale
    2. Transition animation scale
    3. Animator duration scale

Monitor Apps

  1. Go to Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery.
  2. A list of applications will appear on this screen. Check what application is consuming how much battery.
  3. Tap the application that’s consuming the highest amount of battery and then tap Save Power.
  4. This will restrict that particular application from consuming more battery.
  5. Furthermore, you can enable the Power saving mode to save the battery.

At times, the cache partition can make the phone heat up. In such a case, you can clear the cache and it should be all well for you. If clearing the cache doesn’t work, your other option is to go ahead with the Safe Mode. Safe Mode will let you check if a particular application is heating the phone up. Here are both the methods to fix Galaxy S8 Heating Up Issues.

  4. One by one uninstall all the applications that you have recently installed and see what uninstallation makes the phone’s temperature normal
  5. That’s all.

If both the fixes listed above do not work for you, you may want to flash a stock firmware on your Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus.

  • Nice tips. It's very much improved with Samsung Experience, no more much lag. But it's android and these are really good tips to resolve performance issues.

    • @disqus_pM5clhanKp:disqus Yes, they did remove most of the bloatware and made it fine.
      A pro-user can improve it further if he knows how to tweak the phone. I think Samsung is on the right path at the moment.
