Samsung and LG hit Apple where it hurts: Say that they do not slow down older phones

The competitive environment of the smartphone market sometimes forces other companies to trade blows with each other. Apple’s biggest rival in the smartphone business is Samsung, whereas LG is yet to find success in this segment as much as the two companies. However, this has not prevented both manufacturers from forming a small alliance and appealing to their user base, saying that they do not partake in slowing down your smartphone.

LG and Samsung have both said that they care about their user base and would never commit to doing such a thing.

We ensure extended battery life of Samsung mobile devices through multi-layer safety measures, which include software algorithms that govern the battery charging current and charging duration. We do not reduce CPU performance through software updates over the lifecycles of the phone.”

Here was the original statement from Apple, confirming that it was indeed slowing down your iPhone to keep the battery life experience satisfactory.

“Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.

Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.”

Android features a widespread list of lack of optimizations when it is compared against iOS, but users have never complained about companies slowing down the processor just to provide them with adequate battery life.
