Before we move any further, I’m assuming that not all of you are familiar with the root access and have no idea about why you should gain the root access on your device. To make it clear and remove all the confusions for the first timers, we will be going through a brief introduction of the root access first and then proceed with the method.
Rooting your phone gives you complete access over all the data which is apparently locked by the manufacturers. This includes removal of the factory restrictions and making changes to the internal system and the operating system. Gaining the root access gives you the privileges to install various applications to enhance the performance of your device, allows you to remove the built-in applications/programs, helps you to upgrade the battery life of your device & install the apps which require the root access for the proper functionality and modify your device in so many other ways e.g using mods and flashing custom recoveries and custom ROMs. There is a laundry list of things you can do after having your device rooted and installed the custom recovery, now once you’re rooted and have installed custom recovery, go ahead and enjoy it on your phone. Here’s our collection of 10 Best Root Apps.
Here are the pre-installation instructions:
Disclaimer: The methods involved in flashing custom ROMs and rooting your phone are highly custom and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturer that is SAMSUNG in our case. Also rooting your device will void its warranty and you will be no longer eligible for any kind of free device services by the manufacturers/warranty providers. In case of any mishap we may not be held responsible. Also, if your device comes with Knox Security, you will result in voiding it after you root your device and the Knox counter cannot be reset. Follow these instructions to the letter to avoid any mishap or bricking. Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility. |

After searching extensively for instructions on rooting my AT&T Galaxy Note 2 running 4.4.2, I came across this site and gave it a shot.
The Results: Yes, this does work... but there there were some minor issues.
First, note that the CF-Autoroot comes with Odin inside the zip file (from link above).
When I ran this.. it did PASS in Odin and my phone restarted without any problems. However, when I tried to run SuperSU (that's automatically installed by CF) it crashed. I was unable to update from the Play Store because it said it was already installed and since it was a system app, I couldn't uninstall it.
My solution was to go to the creator's website (ChainFire) and download SuperSU from there. After unzipping the file, there were four folders... just browse them them all until you find the single SuperSU .apk file and either copy to your phone or use ES File Explorer to wireless install it onto your phone. Make sure the version you install is either the SAME or NEWER than what is already on our phone or it won't install. After installing, you MUST go into options and choose CLEANUP SuperSU and restart your phone... then repeat the process with reinstalling it so it can close KNOX, otherwise, it will just crash again and you won't be able to open up the app again thanks to KNOX.
It's sounds complicated.. but just download.. install.. open.. and cleanup... restart phone and reinstall again... and that's it..
Others may not have the same issue with SuperSU closing... but that's how I was able to resolve that issue and fully Root my phone.
Thanks....
@SBM_from_LA:disqus this is a known issue with SuperSu. However, I'm glad that you figured it out at your own and it worked perfectly. As this guide is old, at the time of making it, SuperSu worked perfectly. I'll stick your comment at the top so that it helps others. Thanks a lot for letting me know about this.
