How to Install TWRP and Root Samsung Galaxy A6

Samsung’s latest flagship, Galaxy A6 launched in May this year. The device is valiant with its massive 6-inch display and its clear of a notch. It gets a few key upgrades, which include front and rear cameras borrowed from the Galaxy A8, an Infinity display, and Dolby Atmos. The device is coming with Android 8.0 (Oreo). In order to get rid of junk apps, bloatware, and install custom ROMs & firmware, users would be eager to root their devices. However, there is a simple method to Root Samsung Galaxy A6 using TWRP recovery.

The Samsung Galaxy A6 is powered by Exynos 7870 Octa coupled with 4GB RAM for 64GB model & 3GB RAM for the 32GB model. The storage on the device can further be extended to 256GB with a microSD card. Primary camera comes with, 16 MP, f/1.7 26mm lens. The selfie camera is 16 MP, f/1.9 26mm lens. It looks vibrant with 720 x 1480  pixels, resolution display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio and Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.

Prerequisites

  1. Your device needs to have at least a 60% charge to ensure it doesn’t run out of battery during the installation process.
  2. Enable USB Debugging on your phone. To do this, go to the device Settings » Developer options » toggle the “USB Debugging” switch.
  3. Install ADB & Fastboot tools on your PC. You can follow our simple guide which lets you install ADB & Fastboot tools in 15 seconds.
  4. Make sure to backup all the data on your device as this process will wipe all data on your device.
  5. Enable OEM Unlock in developer options as well. To do this, go to the device Settings » Developer options » toggle the “OEM Unlock” switch.
  6. Also back up the things all you need.
  7. Your device must not be RMM locked. Given below are the ways to identify the RMM lock.
  • Reboot to download mode. If you see the text RMM state = Prenormal, then it means your device is RMM locked.
  • The OEM unlock option is not available under the Developer options after you have enabled it. If it’s not available, then that is because your device is RMM locked. It should be available normally.
  • When you boot to recovery mode again, you get the message “Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed”. This also means that your Galaxy A6 is RMM locked.

How to install TWRP and Root Samsung Galaxy A6

Install TWRP:

  1. Boot Galaxy A6 into download mode. To do this follow the below steps.
    1. Switch off your device. Now press and hold the Volume Down and Bixbybuttons together, and then press the Power button till you see a warning screen.
    2. Once Press Volume Up button to confirm to enter into Download Mode.
  2. Download and open Odin3 v3.13.1.exe on your PC and then connect your Galaxy A6 to the PC with a USB cable.
  3. When Odin recognizes your device you’ll be shown as Added!! message in log box. If it was not showing, reinstall the drivers.
  4. The ID:COM port in Odin will turn yellow if you have installed correct drivers.
  5. Download the TWRP file in your PC and load it into Odin. To do this, click on the AP button on Odin and select the TWRP file.
  6. Go to the options tab to check whether Re-partition and Auto Reboot checkboxes are selected or not. If they were selected deselect them.
  7. Click on the Start button and the TWRP file will be installed on your Galaxy A6. It’ll be ended up with the message PASS! on successful installation of TWRP recovery.
  8. Repeat the process if you got any error.
  9. Force reboot and access the recovery mode again to get to TWRP recovery. To do this
    • Press and hold Volume down + Power button together until the screen goes off, but once the screen goes off, do this quickly: while still holding the Power button, press Volume Up in place of Volume down button to reboot into recovery mode.
  10. You’ll be now welcomed with TWRP home screen and it will be asking you for “allow for System modification”. Tap on the “Keep Read Only” button to not allow system modification and access TWRP safely.
  11. Click on Reboot>>System.

Root Samsung Galaxy A6:

  1. Download and copy the SuperSu file to your device’s internal storage.
  2. Now, boot your device into the TWRP recovery by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Power and Home Buttons simultaneously.
  3. Once your device boots into the TWRP recovery mode, click on “Install” and select the SuperSU file folder where you have copied it and swipe to flash it.
  4. After flashing the file reboot the device.

That’s all. Once the device is rebooted, your device will be rooted and you can check this from the Root Checker for Android app.
