How To Root Galaxy Note 9 N960F/FD/N

Ladies and Gentlemen! I present to you the root for the Galaxy Note 9. The Exynos variant of the Galaxy Note 9 has been rooted. This milestone has been achieved by my friend Dr.Ketan (a famous name in the Galaxy Note community). The Galaxy Note 9 N960F, N960FD, and N960N can be rooted by following the steps given in this guide. The appropriate steps to root Galaxy Note 9 N960F/FD/N have been listed after testing the method. Before rooting the phone, let’s throw some light at the Galaxy Note 9.

Galaxy Note 9 – The Super Powerful!

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is a beast in terms of both the hardware and the software. Samsung pulled the curtains off from the Note 9 at an event in the New York City on August 9, 2018. The Galaxy Note 9 has got several improvements over the Note 8. The phone comes with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED QHD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels. Samsung hasn’t opted for the notch on this phone. The Galaxy Note 9 has 18:9 display ratio.

Galaxy Note 9 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU or Samsung’s in-house Exynos 9810 CPU. There is a RAM of 6GB or 8GB and internal storage of 128GB or 512GB in this phone. The Note 9 utilizes the Galaxy S9+’s camera module. There is a 12MP+12MP shooter at the back of this phone. Galaxy Note 9 has an 8MP shooter on the front. Samsung has added a whopping 4,000 mAh battery in the phone. Note 9 is water and dust resistant with the help of IP68 certification. This phone runs on Android Oreo out of the box.

There is another massive upgrade int his phone. The S-Pen on the Galaxy Note 9 is smart now. The Bluetooth-enabled S-Pen can control several applications running on your phone. The S-Pen charges itself intelligently while it is plugged inside the Note 9. The Galaxy Note 9 uses an HDMI to Type-C cable to work as your desktop PC. It does not need the Samsung DeX pad for this functionality anymore.

Making The Super Powerful Note 9 More Powerful – Root Galaxy Note 9

Rooting the Galaxy Note 9 is quite easy, however, the method is not the same as the typical methods used to be. The Galaxy Note 9 rooting method uses an entirely different approach. To root your Note 9, just follow the steps given here carefully.

Preparations to Root Note 9

  1. This guide is only for the Exynos Galaxy Note 9. It is tested on the Note 9 N960F, N960FD, and N960N.
  2. Do not try this method on any other Note 9 or else you will brick it.
  3. Charge your Note 9 up to 50% to avoid power loss during flashing process.
  4. On your Note 9, go to Settings > About Device > Software Information > Build Number > Tap the Build Number for 7 times. This will enable Developer options.
  5. Now go to Settings > Developer options > Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging.
  6. Use the original data cable to connect your Note 9 to the computer.
  7. Close Samsung Kies or Samsung Smart Switch during the rooting process.

Note: This is a custom method and it will trip the Knox counter on your phone. It means your phone’s warranty will be void permanently. Only proceed at your own risk. In case of a mishap, TechBeasts or Dr.Ketan may not be held responsible.

Steps To Root Galaxy Note 9 N960F/FD/N

  1. Turn off your Galaxy Note 9.
  2. Connect the Galaxy Note 9 to your computer.
  3. Now press and hold Volume Down + Bixby Button to boot it into the Download Mode.
  4. Open Odin 3.13.1.exe file from the Odin extracted folder now.
  5. In Odin, click on the AP tab and select the N960F_kernel_PreRoot_RH5_DrKetan.tar.md5 file from your computer.
  6. Make sure that the only option checked in Odin is F.Reset.Time and Auto-Reboot. No other option should be checked.
  7. Now making sure that the device is connected in download mode and all files are selected properly, click on the Start button in Odin.
  8. The file will be flashed and your Note 9 will reboot shortly.
  9. The phone will now ask you to perform a reset.
  10. Reset the phone and let it boot up. First boot will take up to 7 minutes.
  11. Your phone is now rooted. Head over to the next section to install Magisk APK.

Install Magisk on Galaxy Note 9

  1. Copy the downloaded Magisk APK to your phone’s internal storage.
  2. On the phone, go to Settings > Lock Screen & Security > Unknown Sources > Allow.
  3. Now open File Manager and locate Magisk.apk.
  4. Click on the APK to install it now.
  5. Reboot your phone after installation.
  6. Find Magisk Manager in the app drawer now.

Conclusion

That’s all. Your phone is fully rooted now. In case something goes wrong, you can quickly flash the official stock ROM using Odin. The method to root the Note 9 has been found working fine. Don’t forget to create an EFS backup right after rooting your Galaxy Note 9.
