OnePlus 5T might cost $499 but it is a durable piece of portable hardware

With its complete metal body, the OnePlus 5T should immediately be figured as a durable smartphone right? Well, having a metal body for enhanced durability is only half the story because other factors also go into making a durable smartphone.

JerryRigEverything performed a durability test on the OnePlus 5 and that phone passed with full marks. Mostly it had to do with using a regular smartphone design. With the HTC U11, a different material at the back did not make it the most durable of phones.

However, regardless if the OnePlus 5T is a durable smartphone, you should still handle it with care because of the biggest change to the flagship, the 18:9 aspect ratio. With this change, there is more screen available for you but that also means that there can be potentially more damage inflicted to a device because it features more screen and less metal at the front.

During the scratch test, it was shown that even the camera lens is covered with glass which will protect it against sharp objects such as keys, coins, knives and others. Also, since the phone has an AMOLED display, the burn test leaves a permanent mark on the screen because of this particular display technology. On some IPS LCD screens, the burn mark normally recovers.

On to the bend test, the OnePlus 5T is just as durable as the OnePlus 5, with the YouTuber attempting to snap the phone in half but to absolutely no avail. This reveals that the phone’s body and the positioning of several screws allow the smartphone to be extremely rigid and add more points to the durability test.

If you’re certain of spending $499 on the OnePlus 5T, just make sure you do not take it near areas of water and dust.
