iPad with bezel-less display and Face ID could be introduced in 2018

As the globe moves closer and closer towards accepting the generation of bezel-less smartphones, Apple is gearing up to bring the same design to its iPad lineup, according to the latest report from Bloomberg. So far, Apple has virtually no competition in the tablet space and the 2018 iPad could come with slimmer bezels.

Currently, the iPad Pro models feature a 12 and 10.5-inch display, making them great but absurdly large machines. If Apple were to slim down those bezels while adding more screen space to future models, users would be more encouraged to purchase them because they would be easier to carry around.

In addition to the slimmer bezels, the new 2018 iPad has been rumored to ship with Face ID, a feature belonging to the iPhone X for now. Apple believes that Touch ID needs to be replaced with something that is more flexible and easier to use and touts a higher degree of security.

The TrueDepth camera is what is responsible for bringing in the Face ID feature and we strongly believe that this is going to be present in the iPad Pro when it gets announced in 2018. However, this release will not mean the iPad will come with an OLED screen but stick to an IPS LCD panel instead, according to sources close to the matter.

It has not been confirmed why the new iPad will not feature an OLED screen, but it will get better hardware thanks to an improved Apple SoC and a custom made graphics processing unit.

With the slimmer bezels and Face ID features, the new iPad could also fetch a higher price tag. If there is a report mentioning that the new iPad will, in fact, come with an OLED display, get ready to shell out more cash for the tablet.

A new version of the Apple Pencil will also be released but it is not going to be bundled with the slate.
