Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, also known as Galaxy Grand Prime Plus is another mid-ranger from the South Korean giant. Galaxy Grand Prime Plus comes with a 5.0-inch display having 540 x 960 pixels resolution. Samsung has used a Mediatek MT6737T CPU alongside the Mali-T720MP2 GPU on this device. The Galaxy Grand Prime Plus has a 1.5 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. There is a miscroSD card slot on this phone. An 8 MP shooter is fixed at the back and a 5 MP shooter is there for selfie freaks. Galaxy J2 Prime or the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
This phone has been around for quite a while. Since it’s a mid-range device, it took a while for developers to shed some attention on it. After months of being in the market, the phone has finally been blessed with a TWRP recovery and it has been rooted as well. This has been by none other than Ashyx. The phone can now enjoy the latest build of TWRP recovery and it can be rooted using SuperSU.
If the question is ticking on your mind regarding the TWRP and Root access, let us clear it up first. A custom recovery like TWRP gives you the access to wipe cache, Dalvik cache and other partitions of your phone. It also makes you capable of backing up Nandroid and other partitions of the device. Furthermore, a custom recovery is your gateway towards flashing ZIP and other files in order to load in MODs and custom ROMs. On the other hand, you can install new features in your phone with the help of root access. There are root-specific applications which can enhance your device in various aspects. You can also give a boost to the performance and battery life of your phone by using certain applications which require your phone to be rooted.
Assuming that you have an idea about the custom recovery and root access, we can safely head back to what we were here for. This post is going to teach you how you can install TWRP recovery and root your Galaxy J2 Prime/Galaxy Grand Prime Plus with the model number G532/F/G/M.

doesn't work!! - failed to mount Data
@erwinstolz:disqus After formatting the phone using the Format Data option, does it not let you copy the files using MTP mode?
well, after installing TWRP I tried to wipe data with the result that that I got errors meaning unable to mount. Maybe I should use "repair file system" ? any thoughts on this ? tnx
btw, there is no “Wipe > Format Data > type “yes”
@erwinstolz:disqus When you install TWRP, you directly have to boot into TWRP. Do not boot into system before that.
Once in TWRP, it asks you to allow modifications, did you allow modifications?
If so, then next step is to wipe > format data.
In Wipe you find two options, one is advanced wipe and one is format data. - Here you tap format data
After formatting data, you can connect your phone to your PC and copy the files over MTP.
Hi Usama, great job and info's. Installing TWRP and rooting worked perfectly on my Galaxy J2 prime now! Thanks a lot and br
Hi erwin can you give same costom roms links for this phone tnxxx
is it okay if I only do the "TWRP install" part? My phone is already rooted.
@kxhiayamazaki:disqus Yes, totally okay.
thank you :D
Hey, I've installed it but I forgot to tick out the auto-reboot from the options in odin. now whenever I go into recovery mode, it just straight up boots itself. Tried reinstalling it with odin with the auto-reboot off but had same results. Little help please?
Edit: I already have my phone rooted before I was trying to install TWRP Recovery.
@ninjaaaaah:disqus flash a new stock firmware and then repeat the installation process with the auto-reboot option off.
After trying to reboot my device again after sometime and booting into recovery mode TWRP Recovery is now working but now, my device is stuck into bootloop.
UPDATE: I already flashed the custom firmware, rooted my phone, and installed TWRP Recovery. Now the problem's fixed! THANKS SO MUCH!
Hey Usama. As I said, I have been successful in installing the TWRP Recovery but there seems to be an error. It says: "Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid Argument". I did the format to wipe the data but the error still occurs. Please help.
@ninjaaaaah:disqus Flashing the dm-verity file right after booting into TWRP for the first time is important. If you miss that step, you will have to follow the entire process again.
