Today is indeed a big day for the OnePlus 6 users. The OnePlus 6 users are one more step closer to the official Android Pie update. OnePlus has released the very first build of the Android Pie Open Beta for the OnePlus 6 users. The Open Beta is up and available for all the OnePlus 6 users. Unlike the previous beta builds of Android Pie, this update will keep your data safe and sound. The OnePlus 6 Android Pie Open Beta can be downloaded and installed by following the steps given in this guide. Before you install the OnePlus 6 Android Pie Open Beta, go through the changes introduced in this update.

The Android Pie is the biggest update in the history of Android to date. Android Pie will, first of all, move your phone’s Android version to “9.0”. The Android Pie update packs inside massive upgrades. The main notable changes are in the UI of the phone. The moment you turn on the phone on Android Pie, you will find a whole new notifications panel.
OnePlus has changed the way icons used to look in the notifications area. The toggles are redesigned into circular elements now. The tiles for notifications have rounded corners now. OnePlus has also redesigned the notification cards on the phone’s lockscreen.
The recent apps menu has been revamped. Each application appears in its very own window with round edges. The applications now slide towards left and right instead of up and down. The recent apps menu looks quite good. If you have ever used an iPhone, you might find the recent apps of Android Pie similar to the iOS’s.
The next change that I noted was in the settings application. All the icons have been revamped in the settings. The icons for each and every instance of settings application have been redesigned as well. OnePlus has also changed the way the data looks in the settings menu. The company has also regrouped all the settings. So if you cannot find something in its old place, try finding it under another option now.
The dialer and the phone application are redesigned. The moment you make a call, you will find an animation right atop of the call menu. The dialer has got new UI elements too. The volume rocker has got a whole new look. Just as Google introduced it in the stock Android Pie, the OnePlus now has a vertical volume slider. By default, the volume rocker now controls the media music.
There are many other changes that have been applied to the OnePlus 6’s Android Pie build. The ones that I have mentioned above are the changes that I could find for now. OnePlus has also added the gesture navigation feature to the phone.
For the OnePlus phones particularly, the company has integrated accent color customization. The Do Not Disturb mode with adjustable settings has been added. The text notification and notification for 3rd party calls have made it to the Gaming Mode 3.0 in this update.
While there are many things that make this first Open Beta build good enough, there are downsides as well. The Google Play Services and the Play Store can come up with weird errors at times. OnePlus warns about the firmware not being fully stable. After running the firmware for about 10 hours, I couldn’t find anything wrong with it. There are many improvements on the way, but if you wish to get a taste of Android Pie right now, this firmware is totally worth it.
Back in May this year, OnePlus introduced the OnePlus 56. The phone comes with a 6.28-inches display having a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The OnePlus 6 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU and there is the Adreno 630 GPU accompanying the CPU. OnePlus 6 comes in 3 variants. The phone is available with a RAM of 6GB and internal storage of 64GB. The other two variants include 128 or 256GB of RAM with 8GB of internal storage.
OnePlus 6 has a dual rear camera. There is a shooter of 16MP + 20MP at the back. On the front, it has a 16MP shooter. The phone has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. It supports Face Unlock as well. Under the hood, the OnePlus 6 has a 3,300 mAh battery. It uses the USB Type-C to charge and for connecting to the PC. OnePlus 6 ran on Android Oreo out of the box. The phone is all set to get the official Android Pie in a matter of a few days now.
Installing this update is extremely easy. As I mentioned above, this update will not harm your phone. To install the update, the OTA method can be used. Users will download the update file, copy it to their phone and then perform a local upgrade. The update is as easy to uninstall as well. Take a look at the following steps to download OnePlus 6 Android Pie Open Beta now.
Note: These steps are to upgrade your OnePlus 6 from OxygenOS Android Oreo. If you are running on previous developer preview of Android Pie, these steps will not work for you.
That’s all with the installation and uninstallation of the Android Pie on your OnePlus 6. The Android Pie brings all the UI changes that you want to see on your phone. OnePlus has been using the same UI for quite a while. If you don’t like that, you must give this latest update a try. The update has been running smoothly on my phone. So far, I haven’t found any issue that would annoy me. If you are facing any issues with the installation or have any other queries, feel free to reach out to me.
