Install Google Camera with Portrait Mode on Galaxy S7, S8 & Note 8

Google’s Pixel 2 smartphones have amazing cameras. With the new Pixel handsets, Google proved that it’s not important to have a dual-shooter setup for mouthwatering pictures. Google has enhanced both the rear and the front cameras on its phones. There are some modes on the phones which take photography to a whole new level. The Google Pixel 2 phones have a portrait mode. This portrait mode can capture stunning photos. If you are selfie freak, or you just want to take detailed pictures of subjects,  you are going to absolutely love this portrait mode in the phones. The portrait mode has been in-demand since the day Google introduced it.

Right after we see a new smartphone, we find its goodies make their way to other smartphones. That’s actually the beauty of the Android OS. We can have the features of a high-end smartphone in the low-end smartphone and vice versa. Applications of the Google Pixel 2 started making their way to other phones quite early. Since the portrait mode was a main feature of the phone, it took a bit longer for the developers to add it in the Google Camera application and make it avaialble for other smartphones. Luckily, the Google Camera with Portrait Mode is already avaialble for the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus and the Galaxy Note 8. If you own any of these devices, you can start taking mind-blowing selfies with the help of this new mode in the Google Camera.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to install Google Camer with Portrait Mode on the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus and the Galaxy Note 8.

Install Google Camera with Portrait Mode on Galaxy S7, S8 & Note 8

  1. Download the Google Camera Portrait Mode APK and copy it to your phone.
  2. On your phone, go to settings > lock screen & security > allow unknown sources > tap the radio button to turn on.
  3. Using a file manager, locate the Google Camera APK on your phone now.
  4. Tap the APK to install it.
  5. Once installed, open it from the app drawer.
  6. Now in the camera application, open settings > B-S-G Mod settings.
  7. Tap Model and select Nexus 6.
  8. Turn on Portrait mode on all models.
  9. Now get back to settings > scroll down > Developer settings.
  10. Find these options: camera.af.debug.show > turn it off & camera.faceboxes > turn it on.
  11. That’s all. You are all good to take some really good pictures.

At the moment, the Google Camera with portrait mode works only on the Exynos versions of the phones mentioned above. Also, the portrait mode is working only in the rear camera for now. We hope to see an update in the near future to find this mode working on the front camera as well. For now, enjoy photography with what you have at the moment.
