Galaxy J5 Prime was released last year running on the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. When this phone came out, Samsung didn’t show any plans to update it to a higher version of Android. Galaxy J5 Prime just started receiving official Android Nougat update in the UAE region. This update isn’t less than a surprise since the Galaxy J5 Prime users had no idea regarding an update for their phone. The new Android Nougat changes almost everything on the phone. It brings a new UI and enhances the performance and battery life of the phone.
The first and foremost change that you will find on this ROM is in the notifications panel. There are new toggles. The toggle icons have no background now. The toggles also have extended options which come up upon tapping the buttons. The notification bar has some elements inside. Samsung has added the recent files feature in the file manager. You will find a new device maintenance mode in the settings application. The icons of options in the settings application have been revamped. Samsung has also slightly changed the application icons on the application drawer. The phone now lasts longer on a single charge because of some battery enhancements. The overall performance of the phone has been improved as well.
The update first started hitting the UAE region. There was news of this update making its way to the Indian user, however, that doesn’t seem to be true. It will take a while for Samsung to roll out this update for all other regions. It is happening through OTA in the UAE at the moment. If you have a Galaxy J5 Prime bearing the model number G570F/DS, you can check the OTA update and if there is one, you can update your phone immediately. If the update isn’t available the easy way, you will have to download the firmware file from the internet and update your phone manually. For this purpose, Samsung has its own tool called the Odin3. We will first see how to apply an OTA update and then go through the appropriate steps to update Galaxy J5 Prime to Official Android Nougat using Odin.

OTA update is the safest method to update any Android smartphone. However, if the update hasn’t hit your region, you may opt for a manual method to update your phone. Samsung has its own tool called Odin3 which can be used to flash the firmware files manually on your smartphone. Scroll down to update your Galaxy J5 Prime to Android 7.0 Nougat manually.
Early Preparations
Make sure that your device is exactly as mentioned above. To check out what device you have, go to Settings > More/General > About Device or Settings > About Device and match the model number. Be careful about the device model number, flashing a file on a device not listed here might result in bricking it up. In that case, we may not be held responsible.
Your device’s battery should not be weak. In case your device goes dead during the flashing process, your device may get soft bricked and you might be in need of flashing stock firmware and that will ultimately result in wiping up your data as well.
Always use the original data cable to establish a connection between your Android device and your computer/laptop. Using ordinary data cables might interrupt the flashing process, so to avoid any mishap, you need to meet this requirement as well.
Backup everything!
Backup SMS Messages
Backup Call Logs
Backup Contacts
Backup Media – Copy your files manually to your PC or Laptop.
Backup EFS – If rooted, otherwise skip this step.
Make sure that you turn off Samsung Kies while using Odin3 flash-tool. Samsung Kies will interrupt Odin3 and will result in causing errors and may not let you flash your desired firmware. Also, make sure that you turn off any antivirus software you’ve installed and also disable firewall to avoid any connection and flashing issues.
