How to Install Android P update [ Root & No Root ]

Here’s How you can Install Android P Update. Google has released the first developer preview of Android P, Good news is that it’s available for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and the Pixel 2 XL. The bad news is that all the other flagship devices are not included. Moreover, even Nexus 5X and 6P are left out, only Pixel family is blessed with the latest update.

This update can only be installed through OTA and factory images. Google will not be providing the OTA update via beta program anymore. We have prepared a step by step guide which will help you Install Android P update using Fastboot and Magisk or TWRP. Let’s get started.

How to download and install Android P update using Fastboot:

First, download the Android P factory images for your Pixel devices. Once the download is complete then proceed with the following process.

Install Android P on Pixel mobile phones:

Before you proceed, make sure the Bootloader is unlocked of your Google Pixel devices. If you don’t know how to Unlock Bootloader of your Google Pixel phone. You can use the following links.

Unlock Bootloader of Pixel 2/ Pixel 2 XL

  • Download the factory image with respect to your device. Extract it in a separate folder.
  • Now Setup ADB & Fastboot on your PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging on your Pixel device. ( Settings > scroll down > open Developer Options > Enable USB Debugging now. )
  • Connect your device to your PC using the original USB cable.
  • Open the command prompt on your Windows PC. Type the following command and hit enter.
adb reboot bootloader
  • Run flash-all.bat script from the files we extracted.
  • That’s all.

Install Android P Developer Preview 1 on Rooted Devices:

You need to download the factory images for your selected device. Make sure you download the right image because you cannot flash Pixel 2 factory image on 2 XL. Once you have downloaded the Android P Factory image for your device. Extract it on the Desktop.

  • Open the folder where you have extracted the factory image. You’ll see a lot of files, but we are only looking for flash-all.bat and a flash-all.sh.
  • When you find those files, if you are using Windows PC, right click on flash-all.bat and click on Edit ( Please use NotePad ++ ). Now carefully look for “fastboot -w update” line. Remove the -w once you find the exact match. Save the file once you are done with the editing.
  • This change will help you to update your device without wiping data. However, if you are running a custom ROM then there is no need to edit that file.
  • Double Click on flash-all.bat and let it run until all files are flashed.

Mac Users:

  • Once you have downloaded the Android P Factory image for your device. Extract it on the Desktop.
  • Open the folder where you have extracted the factory image. You’ll see a lot of files, but we are only looking for flash-all.bat and a flash-all.sh.
  • When you find those files, if you are using Windows PC, right click on flash-all.sh and click on Edit ( Please use NotePad ++ ). Now carefully look for “fastboot -w update” line. Remove the -w once you find the exact match. Save the file once you are done with the editing.
  • This change will help you to update your device without wiping data. However, if you are running a custom ROM then there is no need to edit that file.
  • Open the terminal and type in chmod +755 flash-all.sh. This command will make the flash-all.sh file executable.
  • In the same directory type in the following command.
./flash-all.sh
  • Now all you have to do is sit back and let the process get completed.
