Huawei Honor V10 news, specs, features, price and release date

Huawei Honor V10 is a model name that might not ring a bell in your ears because of all the hype created by the announcement of the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. However, you will be astounded to hear that this phone features hardware that will rival that of the flagships. To get to know more about the smartphone, check out our entire roundup of features, specifications, price and release date of the Huawei Honor V10.

Huawei Honor V10: Same hardware treatment as the Mate 10 and Mate Pro?

It sure looks like it. Aside from its 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio, the Honor V10 will also be getting the same Kirin 970 rocking the latest flagship duo announced by the Chinese giant. The Kirin 970 also features its very own NPU, or Neural Processing Unit, which should end up making the Honor V10 into a smarter smartphone.

While we’ll get to the price shortly, it looks like the display technology used could be IPS instead of OLED to keep the costs low but that is not going to make the phone worse by any means.

Hardware

The Honor V10 is expected to get 6GB of RAM and a 64 and 128GB storage model. There should also be a microSD card slot so if you want to save up on the money, you can always opt for the base storage version.

The resolution will measure at 2160 x 1080 thanks to the 18:9 aspect ratio and you should expect IP67 water-resistance from the phone. Unfortunately, wireless charging support is not going to be present but this not a deal breaker by any means.

Camera

The Honor V10 is not expected to get Leica branding anywhere on its body, but it should still get a dual-camera feature. The front-facing camera will most likely have a 13MP sensor, while the ones at the back should be a 16+20MP combination.

How both of these lenses will behave is subjective, but looking at the company’s previous phones including the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, the second lens is a monochrome lens, not a Telephoto lens like the one on the iPhone X or Galaxy Note 8.

Regardless, the NPU present in the Kirin 970 should be smart enough to change the colors accordingly depending on the surrounding light and other factors to make sure that the camera is capturing a near-accurate image of what you see with your own two eyes.

The camera and the processor will be powerful enough to support 4K video recording, but it remains to be seen if any of the lenses will support OIS or optical image stabilization. The software should do its best in stabilizing both imaging and video but it can only do so much in comparison to hardware stabilization.

Wireless connectivity and charging port

The Huawei Honor V10 might not feature an LTE modem that can achieve download speeds of 1.2Gbps like the Mate 10 or Mate 10 Pro but it should have a powerful LTE chip regardless. Inside the package, you should get a 3.5mm headphone jack, but all the other usual features such as 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS, GLONASS, and others will be present. The charging port could use the USB-C interface and supports fast-charging.

Battery capacity

The reduced bezels of the Honor V10 might have forced Huawei’s hand to reduce the battery capacity, but leaks are suggesting that the phone will have a cell with a capacity in between the 3,750-4,000mAh range. Considering the high screen-to-body ratio, that is a very large battery indeed. Too bad the phone is not going to provide support for wireless charging; that would have been a huge plus.

Price and release date

The Huawei Honor V10 could be announced in China tomorrow according to the Chinese company’s Weibo account. For the time being Huawei could keep it limited to this market, since it might disrupt the eventual success of the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. We are not sure how many color models are going to be released with the unveiling of the phone but we believe that the price of the device is going to be upwards of $400.

If the phone does make it overseas, would you consider buying one?
