Galaxy S5 with all of its variants is available all across the world now. More the device is getting popular, more is its development moving forward. Just in case you don’t know, all the variants of Galaxy S5 have already been rooted by the famous and well-known XDA Elite Recognized Developer Chainfire. The device is rooted using Chainfire’s CF-AutoRoot, that can be easily flashed using a custom recovery or using a .tar.md5 file with Odin3 flash tool.
Usually, Android enthusiasts keep their devices rooted in order to unleash the true power of their device, and specially when you have a device like Samsung Galaxy S5, you won’t be able to keep yourself on the factory limitations of the device. There merely are the chances that the users want to unroot their device, this may be the case when they want to restrict the root privileges or just in case they want to bring their device back to the factory state. A number of users has been confused about unrooting an Android device, that they usually think, restoring factory settings or wiping the factory data will wipe the root access, but it actually does nothing except wiping the settings made by the users, and wiping the phone’s internal storage.

@disqus_9gGC0DR4Tr:disqus what problem are you facing? Can you tell me that particular error that you got?
Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900I with 5.0 installed and root access. I'm just checking that this is definitely the right tutorial to follow before I update to 6.0.1? Because it's now available for my device and I cannot update OTA and Samsung Kies 3 says it could encounter issues if I have rooted my device
If so, I already have this link bookmarked as well!
https://techbeasts.com/root-galaxy-s5-android-6-0-1-marshmallow-and-install-twrp-recovery/
Btw, very straightforward and helpful tutorials you have on this site :)
@disqus_x9a9kjpFWJ:disqus Yep, you've found the right tutorial. the only thing you need is to find the right file for latest stock firmware for your device. If you need my help regarding finding the firmware, let me know.
Thanks for getting back to me! I believe I have downloaded the correct firmware and thank you for offering :) just to be sure though, my baseband version is G900IDVU1BOJ2 and I am with Optus so it looks to be the firmware listed under version G900IDVU1BOJ1 on this website:
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-G900I
Pretty sure that's right so I will proceed with this tutorial once you reply since I have already backed everything up!
@disqus_x9a9kjpFWJ:disqus That's an old firmware. I'll recommend you to go with a newer firmware e.g. G900IDVU1CPG2.
You don't need to flash an older firmware, just flash the 6.0.1 straight away. Best of luck.
I'm back again applying the latest update and I gotta say, these tutorials are so helpful!
