How To Root Nexus 7 (2012,2013) Wi-Fi on Android 5.0 Lollipop

The factory images of Android 5.0 Lollipop are available for almost all the Nexus devices, including the Tablets. It is quite exciting to see these devices being updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, prior to the OTA that will be available in near future, as the very first Android 5.0 Lollipop device was 64-bit and all the previous devices are running on 32-bit binaries, the only way every device can receive this Lollipop update, if all of them are coded on 32-bit binaries, which is good when it comes to factory images but not OK, when it comes to OTA update and as I mentioned earlier, the better the response of factory images will be the earlier the update will be released as an OTA and since it is Google, they wanted to make sure that the final update will be stable.

The other exciting thing today is that, Chainfire is quite busy in rooting all the devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop, first Nexus 9 was rooted, then we saw the Moto X 2014 being rooted on Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA. Yesterday, the Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi received the Factory Images of Android 5.0 Lollipop and today, once again thanks to Chainfire, both Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi) are being rooted via a very Simple One Click Auto Root Tool. The good news about this method is that, it will root your device with just one-click, thus eliminating the danger of going through complex steps to root the device. Now that you have made your mind, let’s go through the preparations and rooting method of this device.

Early Preparations:

1. This is only for Nexus 7 Wi-Fi!

This custom ROM is only for the device mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see your model number. Flashing this ROM on any other device will result in bricking it so make sure that you meet this requirement first of all.

2. Battery should be charged at least over 60%

Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.

3. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

4. Update your device to Android 5.0 Lollipop!

Since this rooting method ia only for Android 5.0 Lollipop, you’ll need to update your device to Android 5.0 Lollipop, follow the link to do so: Link
