How To Root Lenovo K8 Note and Install TWRP Custom Recovery

Lenovo has been doing pretty good with its smartphone lineup lately. Lenovo has added a number of good handsets to its lineup which has brought fame to the company in the smartphone sector. Just recently, Lenovo launched its new mid-range smartphone named as the Lenovo K8 Note. Lenovo’s idea is also to launch the heavy-specced smartphones under a friendly budget. The K8 Note is just about that. This phone is built out of metal using the Aluminium 6000 material. Lenovo has used a dual-rear camera setup on the phone to add a premium touch to it. The phone isn’t much different from its predecessor in terms of the design language, but it sure has got a lot more good to offer.

Lenovo K8 Note has a 5.2-inch 720×1280 pixels display. The phone uses MediaTek MT6757 Helio P20 CPU to run on. There’s 32GB internal storage. To boost up the processing, Lenovo has planted a RAM of 3GB. This phone has a microSD card slot as well inside which supports up to 128GB. The dual shooter setup at the back has a 13MP shooter and a 5MP shooter. On the front, there is a single 13MP shooter only. A whopping 4000 mAh battery is placed inside to last all day long. Lenovo K8 Note runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. This phone is gearing up for Android 8.0 Oreo in near future.

With the help of a TWRP custom recovery, you can flash custom ROMs and mods. Custom recoveries can be used to flash .img and .zip files using the install option. In TWRP, there’s a backup option which can backup all partitions of your phone. There is also an Advanced Wipe option which can be used to wipe Dalvik Cache and all other partitions. The terminal in TWRP will let you sideload .zip files on your phone. The most popular use of the TWRP custom recovery is the flashing of SuperSU or Magisk in order to root your phone. Rooting can take modification to a whole new level. You can install root-specific applications to boost up the performance and battery life of your phone. Install TWRP Custom Recovery and Root Lenovo K8 Note

Requirements

  1. This guide is only for the Lenovo K8 Note. Do not try this on any other phone.
  2. Charge your phone good enough so that it doesn’t go dead during the installation process.
  3. Backup your call logs, contacts and SMS messages. Also backup your media content. This is important since unlocking the bootloader will completely wipe your phone.
  4. Enable OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging mode on your Redmi 5A.
  5. Use the OEM data cable to connect your phone to your PC.
  6. Unlock your Lenovo K8 Note’s bootloader using this guide.
  7. Follow this guide carefully.

Required downloads and installations

  1. Download and install Minimal ADB and Fastboot drivers on your computer.
  2. Download and install Xiaomi USB drivers on your computer.
  3. Download TWRP Recovery file. Rename this file to recovery.img and copy it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder.
  4. Download SuperSU.zip or Magisk file and copy it to your phone’s internal or external storage.

Install TWRP on Lenovo K8 Note

  1. Connect your Lenovo K8 Note to your computer now.
  2. Go to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot and then launch the MAF32.exe file.
  3. Now in the command window, enter the following commands one by one.
    1. adb devices
      1. If this command returns a list of attached devices with a code, that means your phone’s connect has been established.
    2. adb reboot bootloader
      1. This command will reboot your phone into the bootloader mode.
    3. fastboot devices
      1. This command will confirm the connection in bootloader mode.
    4. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
      1. This will flash the TWRP recovery.img file that you renamed to recovery.img
    5. fastboot reboot recovery
      1. This will reboot your phone into the newly installed TWRP.
  4. If TWRP asks you for a password, press cancel. If you find that the storage is 0MB in TWRP after getting in, then format data using the wipe option. You will have to copy the Magisk or SuperSU using the MTP mode in that case.

Rooting the Lenovo K8 Note

  1. Now disconnect your phone from your PC.
  2. In the TWRP recovery, tap Install > Install Image > Locate Lazyflasher > Select this file > Swipe screen to flash.
  3. After flashing this file, get back to the main menu in TWRP.
  4. Tap Install > Locate and select SuperSU.zip or Magisk  file > Swipe screen to flash.
  5. Flashing SuperSU will root your phone. You can reboot the system now.
  6. That’s all.
