How to fix Google Pixel 2 Bootloader Unlock Issue

Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL came out in all their glory a few weeks back. The phones looked great at first. Google has intelligently innovated its flagship smartphones. Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is equipped with top of the line hardware and they run on the latest piece of Android which is Android Oreo. Since the day these phones came out, a new issue has been pouring in, one after another. Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners reported display issues, camera issues, touch-screen issues etc.

Phones made by Google are always developer-friendly, but the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL turned out to be a hard nut to crack. Users reported that they were unable to unlock the bootloader on their new Pixel smartphone. The origin of the problem is the OEM Unlocking. The option in developer options is greyed out. Without having OEM Unlocking enabled, users cannot proceed with the bootloader unlocking commands.

The bootloader unlock issue was the most annoying one since the majority of the users get these phones for the sake of customisation. Google’s support was unable to immediately respond with a fix. There wasn’t even an idea whether this is a hardware issue or a software issue. However, a fix has been invented by some Android geeks. All it takes is a factory reset and you will be able to enable OEM Unlocking on your Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

If you are carrying a Pixel 2 handset and you are also being traumatized by this bootloader unlock issue, you can follow these steps to enable OEM Unlocking and unlock the bootloader of your Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

How to fix Google Pixel 2 Bootloader Unlock Issue

  1. On your Google Pixel 2 or 2 XL, go to Settings.
  2. Scroll all the way down and open System.
  3. In System, tap Reset Options.
  4. Now tap Erase all data to perform a factory reset.
  5. That’s all. You can now reboot your phone, open settings, enable developer options and then enable OEM Unlocking.
