If you’re planning to get Xperia Z3 Compact, you would like to unleash the true power of your device and try out some powerful applications, perform some experiments to check how much capable your device is when it comes to tweaks and modifications. For this very purpose, you will need a custom recovery and the root access, while both these play an essential role for the Android power users, many start looking out for these right when they get their hands on the device. If you happen to be one of those Android power users, we won’t like to have your time wasted, so we’ve already compiled up the guide to install CWM 6 Recovery and gain the root access on the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5803 and D5833 running Android 4.4.4 KitKat with the build number 23.0.A.2.105.

Before we head towards the installation guide, we would like to thank the XDA recognized developer Doomlord, who always came up with his kernel for various Xperia devices, which allowed the users to load custom recoveries on their devices and take a step towards unveiling the true potential of the Android beasts. The current version of this ClockworkMod Recovery is 6.0.4.7 and is packed inside DoomLord’s Advanced Stock Kernel. Let’s go through the early preps now and begin with the flashing and rooting process.

Early Preparations:

1. This is only for Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5803 & D5833!

This guide  is only for the devices mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see your model number. Flashing these files on any other device will result in bricking it so make sure that you meet this requirement first of all.

2. Battery should be charged at least over 60%.

Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.

3. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

4. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device.

Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap “Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.

5. You must have Android ADB & Fastboot drivers installed

Android ADB & Fastboot drivers are essential for flashing Adv. Stock Kernel. That’s how you will load the .img file on your device. You may install em’ using the full guide here or use the Minimal ADB & Fastboot guide.

6. Your device’s bootloader must be unlocked

You can only flash Adv. Stock Kernel if your device has an unlocked bootloader. You can read all about unlocking your device’s bootloader and unlock it using this guide. Make sure that you do this carefully.

7. Use OEM data cable to establish connection.

Make sure that you use the phone’s original data cable to establish connection between your phone and the PC. Using a different data cable might result in interrupting the firmware installation.

Disclaimer: The methods involved in flashing custom roms and rooting your phone is highly custom and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturer that is SONY in our case. Also rooting your device will void its warranty and you will be no longer eligible for any kind of free device services by the manufacturers/warranty providers. In case of any mishap we may not be held responsible. Follow these instructions to the letter to avoid any mishap or bricking. Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.

  • @caspervannistelrooij:disqus I don't think so that the kernel has something to do with the WiFi, however, I've got a Z3 compact as well and i'll try this. I'll update you soon.
