Galaxy X, the foldable smartphone from Samsung could launch as early as 2018

While nearly the whole world is waiting for the release of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, Samsung is working on newer technologies to make sure that it stands out of the smartphone industry. This is not going to be taking place with dual-camera hardware upgrades or using artificial intelligence to make the device smarter than the regular smartphones but other mobile phones that feature a different shape than what we are used to seeing.

Galaxy X has been Samsung’s rumored foldable smartphone that was earlier reported to be unveiled in 2017 but it appears that thanks to manufacturing complications, the company was unable to announce it this year. However, according to a new report from Business Korea, the foldable smartphone from Samsung could be arriving as early as next year.

Smartphone manufacturing companies such as Samsung end up filing a lot of patents but we have hardly seen these patents appear in smartphones. However, things could take a different turn as an industry source said the following statement.

“Samsung has applied for a number of technology patents for foldable smartphones in order to preempt the foldable display market. But as the product is not officially released, it will be vital to the success of the product how much related technology is applied.”

Samsung’s head of the company’s mobile division also reported that the company will be aiming to release a foldable phone next year but apart from the ability to have somewhat of a flexible display, there was no other info provided, especially on what sort of hardware it will feature.

Our gut tells us that it will have Samsung’s latest Exynos 9810, but that is about all the information we can pass down to you guys right now. The Galaxy X will most likely be produced in small numbers because the manufacturing process is going to be a difficult and expensive one.

Also, Samsung might not want to divert its attention from the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, which are due to be released during the first half of 2018.
