Galaxy S8 update kills its fast charging feature but Samsung is working on a workaround

Samsung is doing its due diligence by releasing software updates for the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and of course the Galaxy Note 8. Unfortunately, in course of its due diligence, accidents tend to take place that can end up breaking a feature that users believe caused a great bit of convenience in their lives.

According to the Samsung forums, it looks like a security update for the Galaxy S8 might have improved the device’s ability to keep malware at bay, but at the cost of breaking the fast-charging feature. Users who have reported on this issue complained that they were using certified accessories when they realized the fast-charging option would no longer kick in.

“I am having this same issue. After the most recent update, It will not charge via cord, luckily I had the wireless charger. But, It charges so slowly and then drains super fast. I sure hope they fix this sooon!!”

This definitely does not mean that other ways of charging the smartphone are broken too. It just means that you will have to be patient with them.

“This is due to the update, plain and simple. I’d appreciate some sort of acknowledgment of the issue and that is being worked on with some urgency. I’ve seen quite a few posts about this same issue, all recent, after the most recent update.”

One user had already identified that the problem was related to the software update being officially released, so it looks like it will take another software update to eliminate this problem. For the time being, you will have to rely on your wireless charging pad or regular charging process to get the job done.

Unfortunately, it will require a great deal of patience from your end so make sure that you have left the device to charge overnight before you unplug it in the morning when you’re about to leave for school or for work.
