‘Feature-rich’ iPhone 8 to have wraparound OLED 5.8-inch display

There is not doubt that the next generation iPhone which is expected to arrive in September is one of the most anticipated devices of the year. With Apple working on a ‘radical redesign’ and celebrating a decade of producing exceptional devices, we are looking forward to iPhone 8. A new update by analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company suggests that we will be looking at 3 new iPhones this year. Two will be 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 7S, devices with incremental upgrades from iPhone 7.

Now the real bread and butter of this years launch will be the iPhone 8 which has also been called as the iPhone X. Timothy Arcuri says that the new devices will be ‘feature-rich‘ hinting at different design changes. iPhone 8 is expected to have a 5.8-inch ‘wraparound’ OLED display. This time around they are working on removing the top and bottom bezels, so that users can enjoy the full display of the device.

At the moment Apple is planning to use the OLED display in the iPhone 8 only due to its suppliers inability to provide them with required number for all three devices before production starts. If the suppliers are able to achieve the target then there are chances that both variants of the iPhone 7S will have the OLED display too. If not then Apple will make use of the LCD displays.

iPhone 8 will make use of a ‘fixed flex’ screen, similar to what Samsung uses its in products. There will be no home button and the Touch ID sensor, FaceTime Camera all will be embedded in the display of the device. Apple has a patent for the embedded finger print display but let’s see how they end up conceptualizing it. The wraparound design will give users a true and seamless edge-to-edge display. As the company is planning to use stainless steel sandwiched in glass body for the iPhone 8, there is a very strong probability that they will be able to achieve the design target set.
