Download and Install Android Oreo on Xiaomi Mi Mix [Hydrogen AOSP]

Congratulations Xiaomi Mi Mix owners! Your year old device can now run on the all-new Android 8.0 Oreo. The phone isn’t obviously going to run on an official build of the Oreo right now. We are definitely dealing with a custom ROM here. You can upgrade your phone with the help of an AOSP based Hydrogen OS based Android Oreo.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix was announced last year by Xiaomi. The phone came out running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. It was later updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. Xiaomi hasn’t given any word yet regarding the next upgrade of the Xiaomi Mi Mix. However, you don’t need to wait for the official update. You can get a hang of the Oreo update right now with the help of the available custom ROM. It’s important to shed some light on the specification of the phones before we jump up to what we are here for. The device equipped a 6.4-inch 1080 x 2040 pixels display. Its original UI was based on the MIUI 8. Xiaomi Mi Mix is equipped with Snapdragon 821 CPU, which was the latest SoC available at the time of its release. The phone came with RAM and storage options of 4 GB + 128 GB and 6 GB + 256 GB. Xiaomi Mi Mix was equipped with a 16 MP shooter on its back and a 5 MP shooter on the front. The Mi Mix is among the high-end devices by the Chinese manufacturer. Xiaomi Mi Mix is not only one of the most beautiful smartphones ever made, it’s also equipped with a very heavy spec-sheet. Xiaomi Mi Mix’s hardware is good enough to give a run to the official Android Oreo build. It would be safe to assume that Xiaomi will upgrade it soon. Till then, give a try to this early build and check out how the Oreo cookie looks on your phone.

Before installing this custom ROM, the very first question that will come to your mind is going to be what works and what doesn’t work. The WiFi on this ROM is found working fine. Calling features, messaging and mobile data is also running phone. GPS is working smooth. All light effects of the phone are working. Sounds are working fine and the infrared is also working fine. Now comes the stuff that is crashing. The camera isn’t working for now. Flashlight won’t work either. The camcorder isn’t intact. The phone sometimes randomly reboots. If the latter part isn’t a big deal for you, you should be fine to go ahead with the flashing of this custom ROM.

Here’s a comprehensive & step-by-step guide to install Android Oreo on Xiaomi Mi Mix using the Hydrogen AOSP custom ROM.
