How to clear Android App Cache and Data

Clearing cache and data is the ultimate solution to many problems appearing with the Android applications. Android application’s settings have the option to clear the cache and data particularly in the settings of each application. These settings are handy when a particular application is coming up with errors like “application has stopped working” or the application simply freezes/lags. These are very common issues and can be easily fixed. At times, the solution is to head over to the Google Play Store and check if there is an update available for that application. In the case of an update, simply installing new update can fix all the issues happening in your phone. But if the update doesn’t help, you have to clear the cache and data.

Clearing Cache on Android Lollipop and prior is very much straight away. Google slightly changed these settings in Android Lollipop and later versions of Android. Here’s how to clear Android App Cache and Data on Android KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat and later.

Clear Android App Cache and Data on Android

Note: Only clearing the data will clear the cache as well. Clearing the data will log you out of the applications like Facebook, Messenger, Snapchat and others. It can also make your saved data/progress of a game if not synced with a social media account.

Clear Android App Cache and Data on Android Lollipop and Prior

  1. On your Android phone, go to Settings.
  2. In Settings, go to Applications Manager or Application settings.
  3. Swipe towards the All Applications tab now.
  4. Select the application from the list of apps now.
  5. In the settings of your selected application, you will find the clear cache and clear data buttons.
  6. Tap the buttons to clear cache/data.

Clear Android App Cache and Data on Android Marshmallow and Later

  1. On your Android phone, go to Settings.
  2. Find Application Manager or Application settings.
  3. In the Application settings, swipe towards the All or the Running Applications tab.
  4. Select the application of which you want to clear the cache and data.
  5. A list of further options will appear now, tap the Storage option.
  6. Under the Storage option, you will find Clear Cache and Clear Data options.
  7. Tap the button according to your liking.
  8. That’s all.
