Add little Extra: Run Android on your iPhone with project ‘Eye’

Do you want to turn your iPhone into Android smartphone? Well you would be thinking about the logistics of how that would be possible: new software, jailbreak or a series of complex tasks that you would rather stay out of. Interestingly, there is nothing like that, kickstarter project ‘Eye‘ is a case for iPhone that adds another smartphone that runs Android at the back. If you think that this is a fun idea then you are not the only one, the kick-starter campaign for this project has been so popular that with 32 days to go, the goal of $92,000 has been surpassed.

So, the question how will the ‘Eye’ work, would it leech battery from the iPhone? The smartphone at the back will have a totally different setup which will be separate from the iPhone it is encased with. The Eye will feature a 5-inch AMOLED display with a full HD 1080 x 1920 resolution. It will be equipped with Heilo P20 SoC along with a Mali-T880 GPU. In terms of storage you will get a 3GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be bumped up to 256 GB via the microSD card. It will run Android 7.1 Nougat and will be powered by 2800mAh battery. Additionally you will get dual-sim, NFC support and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The ‘Eye’ would be available in two sizes and will fit any 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone that came after 2014. The cases will start shipping in August. Let’s talk pricing , if you get on the early bird deals you will get the case in $95 and as soon as the campaign ends it will cost $189. That isn’t all.

The campaign has reached its desired goal which means that this is a concept that you will see in mass production. With 32 days more to go, if $500,000 are raised, the battery will be amped to 10,000mAh. If the goes to $3 million, the case will come with IP67 certification, at $ million, you get a double boot with Ubuntu and at $15 million, a triple boot feature will be present which would run Windows 10 Mobile alongside Android and Ubuntu.

So, what do you think of this project? Is this something innovative or why would someone go ahead and mix Android and iOS? Let us know what you think. If you plan on amping up you iPhone then go ahead and see what more is there.
