Samsung is done with the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 10 as well. The company is about to get busy with the production of its next flagship smartphone. Samsung is supposed to work on the Galaxy S10 now. While the name of the next Galaxy S smartphone is still unclear, information about one of the most important components of the phone has made it to the internet.
According to a recent report, the Galaxy S10 is going to be Samsung’s very first smartphone to have an under-display fingerprint reader. A report coming from a Taiwanese source has revealed that Samsung is planning to deploy Qualcomm’s third-gen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor inside the screen of the Galaxy S10. This ultrasonic fingerprint scanner can stick to the back of the phone’s screen. It is also supposed to work better than the optical fingerprint reader as it is less prone to external lighting and other such conditions. The fingerprint scanner is also expected to make its way to the 2019Â Galaxy Note and A series smartphones.
Qualcomm first introduced the ultrasonic fingerprint reader in 2015. Since then, the fingerprint reader has been improved only. The successor of this fingerprint scanner was released in June last year. The third generation ultrasonic fingerprint reader is all set to find its place beneath the displays of the smartphones.
In order to meet the supply for the initial launch of the ultrasonic fingerprint reader, Qualcomm has joined hands with the Taiwanese companies GIS and O-Film to manufacture it. Both these companies have already worked on the under-display fingerprint readers already.
Under-Display Fingerprint Scanner on existing phones
So far, the Chinese phone makers have been successful in deploying the fingerprint readers under the displays of their smartphones. Huawei added this kind of fingerprint reader in its Mate RS Porsche Design. Later on, an in-display fingerprint reader made it to the Vivo Nex. Vivo has already used it on the Vivo X20 and Vivo X21 as well. The new Vivo V11 Pro also comes with the same. Oppo also used the under-display fingerprint sensor on the Oppo R17 Pro. OnePlus 6T is also expected to carry this unlocking method.
Qualcomm’s 3rd generation ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner seems better than the existing in-display readers. Only time will tell how this module works on the upcoming Galaxy S10. Let us know what do you think about this upcoming technology.
