56

Google has rolled out Android 5.1 Lollipop for its recent flagship devices. Samsung and other manufacturers are still struggling to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop for some of their devices. Samsung has rolled out the update for its top of the line smartphones, but a huge audience that owns mid-range and budget Galaxy devices may be still waiting for a good news from Samsung, which is unlikely to come out. Galaxy Mega, one of its-own-kind device introduced by Samsung a few years ago ran on Android Jelly Bean out of the box and received KitKat later on. The device does have some nice hardware specifications, but the users may be a bit disappointed after coming to know that this device won’t be receiving Android Lollipop.

If you’re a Galaxy Mega 5.8 owner and you still want to update your device to the latest iteration of Android, a custom ROM maybe a choice for you. By means of a custom ROM, you can have the taste and feel of pure Android Lollipop firmware. The one we have found for you is the most popular, CyanogenMod. CyanogenMod 12.1’s unofficial builds have started landing on development forums, and Galaxy Mega 5.8 happens to be one of the lucky devices to get this ROM very early. All basic features of the phone are found to be working in this ROM, there maybe minor bugs as we can’t guarantee the complete functionality of this ROM. Apart form the CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM, we have also mentioned the well known Resurrection Remix ROM , which is also quite stable and offers unofficial Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Galaxy Mega I9152. Let’s go ahead and pick up your desired custom ROM and install unofficial Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on your beloved Galaxy Mega 5.8 GT-I9152.Samsung-Galaxy-Mega-5.8-front

Early Preparations

  1. This ROM is only for Samsung Galaxy Mega Dual GT-I9152. Do not try this on any other device, please check your device’s model in Settings > About Device > Model.
  2. Your device must have a custom recovery installed, in case you’re missing it you may Follow our full guide here to install TWRP 2.8 recovery on your Galaxy Mega 5.8.
  3. Your device’s battery should be charged at least over 60%. This is highly recommended in order to prevent any power issues during the flashing process.
  4. Make sure that you backup your important media content, ContactsCall Logs Messages. This is highly recommended just in case something goes wrong and you need to reset your phone.
  5. If you already have rooted your device, use Titanium Backup to back up all your important apps + system data.
  6. Also if you are using a custom recovery, it is recommended that you backup your current system using that first. [Just for the sake of safety]. Here’s our full Nandroid Backup guide.
  7. You will have to go through Data Wipes during installation of this ROM, so make sure that you have backed up all the mentioned data.
  8. Make an EFS backup of your phone before you flash this ROM.
  9. You need enough confidence to flash this ROM.
  10. Alright! Go ahead and flash the custom firmware, follow this guide to the letter.

Disclaimer: The methods involved in flashing custom roms and rooting your phone are highly custom and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturer that is SAMSUNG in our case. Also rooting your device will void its warranty and you will be no longer eligible for any kind of free device services by the manufacturers/warranty providers. 1. It seems little difficult to do these all steps and sometimes it is getting failed.
Please tell me the easiest way to update for lollipop. I am using samsung mega I9152.

    • THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO TO LOLLIPOP. Can’t you follow simple steps? If you cannot then don’t bother with Lollipop. If you are trying to follow the steps and you are having a problem, why can’t you just say at what step you are failing? How can anyone help you if you can’t do that???

    • @cvangelo:disqus nope, performing a factory reset in a custom recovery will do the job for you. Wiping System and Data partition isn’t necessary.

  2. There is an Early Preparation Step MISSING! Some Samsung phones have a locked bootloader depending on the operator. You need to UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER before you try to flash the ROM. This ROM can only work with an UNLOCKED bootloader! If you do not unlock the bootloader, you will not be able to flash the ROM on phones where the bootloader is locked.

  3. All GApps not working it says unfortunately app has been stopped if i press ok again and again show the same error im not able to use other apps also

  4. hi.. i am facing the same issue as jaya prakash. After flashing with Gapps Stock Modular Package For Android 5.1.x Lollipop and then rebooting the system, it says unfortunately google apps have stopped working and click “Ok”. This keeps on repeating and can’t pass this through. Please help.

    • @disqus_dtFlbLCOPA:disqus Try flashing a different GApps package and then wipe cache and dalvik cache. Check if it works after doing this or not.

      • I got the issue. It was the version of GApps which was being installed. Though I was installing for android 5.1.1 but it was not solving the purpose. Then I looked for a dynamc version of GApps 5.x.x which will work on any android version going forward from here. It worked for me. Thanks for this article. I spent 8hrs today to do this. pheww.

    • just go to settings and clear the data of google play store then reboot your system after rebooting sign in again and the i gues it will work… al the best ..

  5. i have a samsung galaxy mega 5.8 gt-i9150, is there any difference between them??, besides the dualsim of the i9152.

  6. help, ive also had the same problem as ashutosh roy, ive tried stock and mini modular gapps but still wont work, please help

  7. Two major flaws I see right now on my Mega 2 Lolipop 5.1.1 update:
    1. When receiving new texts, my screen wakes up but it leaves no message (“new messages”) on the screen. So if I didn’t see the screen wake up for a few seconds, I actually have to input the passcode and then go into the app to see if I have any texts. Awful!! I stopped using WhatsApp in the last update because I stopped receiving such messages. This is a major fault, not just a glitch, due to the importance of texting for most people.
    2. Battery life – it’s now horrible!

    Anyone else having these problems?

    Please Help Me……..

  11. i have a problem in recovery install, it wont appear, after i install & i turn off my phone then i press 3 buttons again and the phone come back from the beginning

  12. hi, i’m a beginner…
i’ve done all steps above, and succeed in first try…
    but there’s something weird…
it’s supposed to have 8gb of internal storage, but after i did this lollipop installation, only 5gb appear…
    can you tell me why…?
because when i’m still using jelly bean, it says 8gb internal storage…

  13. Upgraded a Samsung GT-I9152 from 4.2.2 to 5.1.1 per the
    above code (https://techbeasts.com/install-android-lollipop-511-galaxy-mega-58-i9152/).

All default apps have worked, including out&In
AT&T cellular calls, and Wifi services. However, both Uber and Lyft both
respectively advise “No cell connection. Try Moving your vehicle to an
area with better coverage.” and network Issue Could not complete the
    action due to poor connectivity”.

Despite cell strength showing at least 4 or 5 bars? Any
suggestions before I take a full retreat?

    • @disqus_BOpEZR3Oit:disqus I’m sorry to say that I’m completely clueless about this issue as this is a custom ROM. Had it been an official ROM, we must have figured it out. You’re on your own when it comes to a custom ROM.
