How To Root And Install CWM Recovery On HTC Desire 816

The old HTC Desire Series is getting back and with the arrival of HTC Desire 816, the desire series is getting one heck of a response from the users, the specs of this devices is not something easily achievable in such price. A Quad-Core Cortex A7 Processor clocked at 1.2GHz is ported in this device, 1.5GB of RAM, BT4.0, 13MP HD Camera and Android 4.4.2 with HTC Sense UI out of the Box. The device unlike most of the HTC devices, performs really well and sold out all over the world but like any other device, users are waiting for the rooting method of HTC Desire 816, and today we will show you how it is done.

Rooting your Android device allows you to get full control over it, also allows you to install Custom Recoveries and ROMs on it, along with many more tweaks and other stuff. It allows you to change settings of your hardware too, like you can overclock you CPU. GPU and RAM, but all of it will heat up your device and not suggested from many officials. If you have a HTC Desire 816 and want to root it, follow the tutorial ahead and get what you want.


Here are a little something to consider before rooting:

  1. Your Device must be running Android L Developer Preview, How Follow: Link
  2. Back-Up all your important ContactsCall Logs & Messages. It is highly recommended in case of any mishap or data loss to back up all your important data.
  3. Back-Up your Mobiles EFS Data. 
  4. Check your device model, Go To Setting > About and Make sure that it is HTC Desire 816
  5. Do not try it on any other device

How To Install CWM Recovery:

  1. Download the CWM Recovery Image and paste it in the Fastboot folder.
  2. Turn Off your Device.
  3. Now go to Bootloader/Fastboot mode, Press and hold Power + Volume Down Buttons till you see some text on-screen.
  4. Now Open Command prompt in Fastboot Folder.  How? Hold Shift Key and Right Click anywhere in the Fastboot folder.
  5. Connect your Device with PC.
  6. Now Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img to flash the CWM Recovery on your device.
  7. Type fastboot reboot, to reboot your device.
  8. After a proper reboot, your device will be running CWM Recovery.

How To Flash Super SU:

  1. Download Super SU to the root of your SDcard.
  2. Turn Off your Device again.
  3. Now go to Bootloader/Fastboot mode, Press and hold Power + Volume Down Buttons till you see some text on-screen.
  4. Choose Recovery From Bootloader.
  5. Navigate to ‘Install zip from SDcard’ another window will open in front of you.
  6. Select ‘choose zip from sd card’ from the Options.
  7. Select the Super file and confirm the installation on next screen.
  8. Once the Installation is Over, Select +++++Go Back+++++.
  9. Select “Reboot System Now“,
  10. After the Reboot, check Super SU app in drawer or use any root checker app to verify root access.
