Xiaomi today launched Redmi 2S in China. We already knew that Xiaomi had a launch planned for today, the first of the two launches scheduled for this month. There were speculations that maybe the company would also launch their flagship Xiaomi Mi5 today, well that didn’t happen and no they will not be unveiling the device at the CES, the company has confirmed the fact.
There were reports that the new smartphone will be named Redmi 1S Dual 4G, good move on the company’s part to name the next generation of Redmi 1S as Redmi 2S, this will help them streamline their budget series. As per the details announced today, the Redmi 2S will sport a 4.7 inch 720 x 1280 display and an 8-megapixel main and 2-megapixel front-shooter. The smartphone is powered by 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. The device is equipped with Aderno 306 GPU, 1 GB RAM and 8 GB of internal storage which can be extended to 64 GB. Redmi 2S will be powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat and a 2200mAh battery. The smartphone will support 4G connectivity; this is one of the main upgrades from the last model. The device will be available in five different colors: white, black, pink, yellow and green.
Xiaomi 2S will retail at $112 (699 Yuan) and is available for pre-orders currently. The company currently is the 3rd largest smartphone manufacturer in the world and expects to sell 100 million devices this year. They are focusing on bringing products that have good specifications and are easy on the pocket and this is one of the reasons they are the market leaders in China currently and they are set on keeping their edge for this year too. Redmi 2S will be launching in other Asian countries soon, there are no details whether this budget beauty will be arriving in other international markets.
