WhatsApp has dominated the world of social chat messengers by a leap. It didn’t take long for WhatsApp to become the top choice for chatting freaks, and then came the long-awaited voice calls feature which helped WhatsApp by a great mark as well. WhatsApp’s voice call features pushed WhatsApp one more step towards the video calling feature. After the release of voice calls last year, the addition of Video Calls to the crazily-famous chat app has been making rounds in the rumour mills.
The speculations and anticipations got a little more spice when the screenshots of WhatsApp Video Calls floated around the web just a few months ago. Now that we know that WhatsApp is working on a Video Calls feature, we will be seeing this feature hitting the WhatsApp pretty soon. We are expecting WhatsApp’s video calling feature to rival the likes of Viber, Skype and other IM’s with the video calling capability.
For now, we have collected all the data which is available about the upcoming WhatsApp Video Calls and summed it all up here with the news, release date and updates.
WhatsApp Video Calls: Leaked Screenshots
A German tech blog Macerkopf got its hands on the screenshots of WhatsApp messenger running a real-time video call. The leaked screenshots shows off an iOS powered device running WhatsApp version 22.214.171.124 having the video called turned on. The said version of WhatsApp is reportedly under testing at the moment.
The leaker also suggests that WhatsApp Video Calls will also allow the users to switch between primary or secondary cameras alongside the new tabs feature.
While it can’t be said right now whether these images are real or not, but keeping in view other news and rumours about the existence of WhatsApp video calling feature, we can be certain that there sure is a version of WhatsApp under work with this capability. The leaked screenshot shows off an iOS version of WhatsApp, but it doesn’t mean that WhatsApp won’t be bringing the Android version with this feature. We sure will see the Android version too, and maybe far before it hits the iOS platform officially.
WhatsApp Tabs & New Design
WhatsApp is reportedly working on the tabs feature. The tabs feature will let the users access the chats opened next to each other by simply tapping the tab rather then getting back to the main menu again and again and accessing the chats only one at a time. This feature will allow the users to quickly navigate to any opened chat. The feature will work just as you’d manage the tabs in a web browser on your Android phone.
WhatsApp developers are also working on a new design. We will be seeing new design aesthetics on this application once the video calling feature comes out of curtains.
WhatsApp Video Calls Release Date
Currently, there isn’t a specified release date for WhatsApp Video Calls. WhatsApp Video Calls feature is expected to arrive officially in next few weeks. As soon as we get to know anything about the release date, we will update it here.
How to access WhatsApp Video Calls right now?
Right now, there isn’t a way to make video calls from WhatsApp. What you can do is, you can record a video using the in-built video option in WhatsApp and send a video clip to your loved ones.
Once the feature arrives on WhatsApp, users will be able to make video calls just as they make the voice calls on WhatsApp. The feature is expected to be pretty similar to Viber, Skype and others.
WhatsApp Video Calls alternatives
In the meanwhile, you can use IM’s like Viber, IMO, WeChat, Skype, Line and many others to make video calls.
