Treat time for the Xperia Z Ultra owners. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is finally rolling out for Xperia Z Ultra C6833 and C6806. The new update takes the build number to 14.6.A.0.368. Sony has completely fixed the wide-spread Stagefright exploit in this update, which happens to be quite a good move. The update brings a number of changes which include integration of LinkedIn in Calendar and Contacts, Camera focus, speed and accuracy enhancements, new Xperia themes, new settings menu icons, additional options for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in notification menu. This new update is currently rolling out to the users in selected regions through OTA or through Sony PC Companion.

Those Xperia Z Ultra owners who do not want to wait for this update to hit their region through OTA or through PC Companion, they may want to update their device right away using a manual method. As usual, we are here once again with a method to update your Xperia Z Ultra to the latest and greatest available version of Android.

In the succeeding post, we are going to guide you to update your Xperia Z Ultra C6833, C6802 & C6806 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop 14.6.A.0.368 firmware using Sony Flashtool. Let’s go ahead and get it done right now.

Early Preparations:

1. This is only for Sony Xperia Z Ultra C6802, C6806 & C6833

This ROM is only for the device mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see your model number. Flashing this firmware on any other device will result in bricking it so make sure that you meet this requirement first of all.

2. Battery should be charged at least over 60%.

Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.

3. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

  • Backup SMS Messages
  • Backup Call Logs
  • Backup Contacts
  • Backup Media – Copy your files manually to your PC or Laptop.
  • Titanium Backup – If already rooted, use Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps, system data and other important content. If you haven’t rooted your device previously, skip this step.
  • Backup Nandroid – If CWM  or TWRP installed previously, otherwise skip this step and perform this at the end of flashing.

4. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device.

Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap “Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.

5. Install and setup Sony Flashtool.

You must have installed Sony Flashtool. Find the full guide here.

After installing Sony Flashtool, open the Flashtool folder from the drive where you installed it. Now open Flashtool>Drivers>Flashtool-drivers.exe and install the Flashtool, Fastboot & Xperia Z Ultra drivers from the list. [Important]

6. Use OEM data cable to establish connection.

Make sure that you use the phone’s original data cable to establish connection between your phone and the PC. Using a different data cable might result in interrupting the firmware installation.

  1. Hi 🙂
First THANKS for your great guides !
I was on LP 5.1.1 OTA and lost root.
Now I’m again on kitkat (14.4.a.0.118_R7C_SFR FR) + root+recovery as i followed your exact guides. Question : 4.4 rom is SFR (not generic) and 5.1.1 is unbranded/generic…it’s been said (here or somewhere else I don’t remember) that we must update with the corresponding rom (branded if branded, generic if generic)
Am I right? If NO, does the generic 5.1.1 rom in your link contains french language? AND will I loose root?
I want LP 5.1.1 stock or else with root, recovery and french lang. i’m new with sony, I searched for 3 days a good guide…xda, google…etc…
What would you do now? unlock BL? (after backup TA)
Thanks for your help and keep the good work 🙂

  2. I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra c6802(Indian) which is soft-bricked(doesn’t turn on, just the notification light blinks red when power button is pressed, which means firmware is corrupted but fastbootmode and flashmode are totally working.) can I use this firmware to flash my c6802 device? because my current firmware had a different build number of Android 5.1.1 installed (out of the box). Also is there English language option in the given c6802 firmware cause the name of the firmware says Customized MEA (my guess Middle East Asia).

    • @disqus_KWurmCXcFE:disqus Just go ahead and flash a new firmware, the region won’t matter as long as the firmware is Customised. You can also create your own firmware using Xperifirm. The guide is already up on our site. And yes, you can use the firmware linked above as well 🙂 Best of luck.
