Sony Xperia XZ Premium just received an official update to Android 8.0 Oreo. This new update changes the build number to 47.1.A.3.254. With this update, Sony becomes the first non-Google giant to update its flagship phone to Android 8.0 Oreo. Other manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Motorola, Huawei and all others are still wondering when they should announce the updates for their smartphone. Meanwhile, Sony has just cheered up all the Xperia XZ Premium owners.

Sony has a very good track record when it comes to software updates. Sony always releases timely updates. I personally have no idea why the Sony smartphones are very slow when it comes to the market. Sony should be given the best Android phone manufacturer awarded just because of its swift software updates. The Xperia XZ Premium now enjoys the latest and greatest iteration of Android with a handful of some other goodies. This update brings massive changes and a plethora of new features to the XZ Premium handset.

It’s not possible that the update has hit the entire globe and every single Xperia XZ Premium owner is enjoying this update. If you happen to own this phone, you can quickly check the OTA updates. If there is an update of the aforementioned size available, you can update it and get the new operating system running on your device. In case you fall in a region where this update hasn’t made it yet, you would want to opt for a manual method. We have one here for you. You can follow the steps given in this guide to update Xperia XZ Premium G8141 & G8142 to Android 8.0 Oreo 47.1.A.3.254 Official Firmware.

Early Preparations:

1. This is only for Sony Xperia XZ Premium D8141 & D8142

This ROM is only for the device mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see your model number. Flashing this firmware on any other device will result in bricking it so make sure that you meet this requirement first of all.

2. The battery should be charged at least over 60%.

Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.

3. Backup everything!

Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

4. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device.

Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap “Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.

6. Use OEM data cable to establish a connection.

Make sure that you use the phone’s original data cable to establish a connection between your phone and the PC. Using a different data cable might result in interrupting the firmware installation.
